Alice 103.3-FM flips to "Frank" Format

As of this morning it seems at WLKC (Alice 103.3) has gone through YET another format change. This time it looks like a "Frank" or "Jack" format.

103.3-FM in the Burlington/Plattsburgh market is now "MP-103... Playing What We Want."

I can't get their old simulcast (93.7) where I am... is that still Alice?

93.7 is also MP-103

I can see why they didn't call themselves "Frank" "Jack" or whatever else, having already been "Alice".

Was there a call letter change as well? I mean, I get the "We play what we want" equating to .MP3s adding up to MP-103, but it would work better if there were actually an M and P in the call letters (for listeners who DON'T get it).

I know it's tough to keep all this stuff straight, but the "Frank" format (106.3 Nashua, 107.5 Portland, 105.5 Mid Coast Maine) is nothing like the Jack/Mike/Bob/Ben format. It is just plain old classic hits, mostly softer classic rock, and nothing later than about the mid 80s. The Jack/Bob/Mike... stations play classic rock, disco, 80s, 90s......

Re: Alice 103.3-FM flips to "Jack" Format

I thought so. I ended up going back and fixing it from Jack to a Frank... Thing that gets me the most is the slogan.

If I were a PD at a competing station I'd instantly have my liner guy cut a "They can play what THEY want, we'll just keep playing what YOU want." sweeper.

Plus I heard another liner that said:

"MP 103, tell us what you think. Just don't tell us what to play."

...So as a listener I can't request anything? I just have to listen to what some dumbass jock picks?

I don't think listeners respond well to that. I mean we all know that stations don't really play requests but damn, they don't know that.

I didn't even get it myself. Thanks for the explanation, Flan Man. I thought it was the station for Military Police. I never knew they were so passionate about the classic hits.

Seriously, what a jackass programming move. Alice was actually sounding better in recent months. Typical knee-jerk radio people.

So far that is 2 format changes in the last 3 years. First they were the Lake 103.3 and it was a Lite FM format which was pretty good, if anything they should became either a Real Oldies station 50s and 60s or a full Oldies station with all 4 decades 50s through the 80s this way we can have something better to listen to than that terrible and lousy kool 105.

That's not happening for the same reason that Ford doesn't advertise the Crown Vic on television. A format that plays 50-year old songs would be a tough sell, especially for a company that struggles to garner publicity in the market with more contemporary formats.<P ID="signature">______________

Kool does a great job. It's live and local seven days a week and that makes all the difference. It is a great entertainer and informative. No voice tracking until after 7pm on weeknights. Give them a little credit.

The Calls for 103.3 are WWMP. The switch went into effect June 15, 2003 after FCC approval.
