Alice 97.3 off the air

It was weird, Alice's analog signal was off, but the HD signal was still working

The HD transmitters are a totally separate transmitter. One company's engineer spent a lot of time over an entire year installing all the HD transmitters for his cluster's stations.

We were not off the air. 102.1 burned up their main antenna a couple of weeks ago and due to RFR rules, we could not operate off of our main antenna which is located directly below 102.1. We were operating off of our backup site on Grizzly Peak, same tower as KPFA. This site only runs about 8KW ERP. Our IBOC signal was still coming off of Mt. Beacon from a seperate tower and antenna so we did not have to shut it down. Depending on where you are in the bay area, it is very possible that you could still hear the IBOC signal but be shielded from the lower power analog signal from Grizzly Peak. The backup site is pretty good for most areas but it shows the difference between 82KW and 8KW.

Thanks for the information. Nice site you have on Beacon, been there many times for KISQ. :)
