Alice @ 97-3 To CHR?

P

Alice (now an adult CHR) has been moving more CHR lately, and they've added Will Smith on its playlist. But, for your pop fix, you'll be split between Energy, Wild & Alice. How many pop tunes does Energy play?

My Predictions:
97.3 or 101.3 Go CHR
104.5 Flip KFOG To Country @ Froggy 104 With Calls KFFG, Leave KFOG Alone On 97.7
106.9 Go Mainstream Rock As "K-Rock -- Great Rock. Period" ala WXRK NYC.

Are you crazy?

Why would CC flip KIOI - which bills a crap load of money - and is winning the Hot AC race - to CHR and then ultimately hurt KYLD?

Susquehanna makes good money with their K-FOG simulcast - and KRTY already owns Country in the south bay - there's ZERO need for another Country station in San Jose.

Why would 106.9 go Rock and compete with "Live 105"??? Rock is not a great format to get into in any major market - much less SF.

97.3 to CHR may make sense - so they can put "Jack" on 106.9 and not hurt KLLC.
But even then, will they want to battle "Max"???

Are you crazy?

Using actual programming logic on this discussion board?

Why do people insist that country is going to make a killing here? Never has, never will, despite all you Garth Brooks lovers out there in denial. KFOG is making big bucks for Susquehanna right now on 104.5, and the 97.7 signal doesn't get close to SF, so why only keep it on 97.7 ?

CC probably won't flip KIOI--agreed.

But many people are talking about a country station in SF--big difference. It's not about need it's about want. If enough people want a format, it will happen.

Based on what?? Everybody who hates rock n' roll's "this genre is doomed" sentiments?
Live 105 is NOT a rock station. They do NOT rock.
KITS may play Rage, Linkin Park, the occasional Manson tune and maybe even White Zombie during the rewind, but they do not own the "rock" listeners.
KITS caters mostly to the too cool for the room people who think indie is in and mainstream is out.
Doesn't matter if it's true. That's what many of the listeners believe. People who would listen to a station marketed as SF's "rock" station probably don't like The Killers, Franz or Louis XIV. Just an educated guess.
Rock works in many major markets. Rock's record sales have been up the past few months--they've had a few VERY good months.
AOR was tried with KSJO and it didn't work. The audience wasn't there. A Jack-oriented active rocker could work.
What rock has that few other genres have is staying power through change.
Hip-hop might still have it in 20 years, but it's anybody's guess.

Obviously, rap is today's biggest craze. In some quarters of the year, rap and R&B can combine for more than 60 sometimes 70 percent of record sales, according to Soundscan.
I would like to see rock return to SF, but re-introducing one would take some careful planning.

No--Jack has no place in SF right now. "Max" covers that territory.
I would like to hear top 40/CHR in SF again.
Even if it leans rhythmic, at least SF will have what nearly every other major market has.

I know I'm crazy.

Come one people!!!

PassDutch posts some of the most ridiculous predictions and comments to be found anywhere on this board and we all jump all over it. He's either jerking our chain to get a laugh or is totally clueless.

Any and all of those predictions are so far-fetched.

Why? I don't think they're all so far-fetched.

If you're going to slam him, give some reasons why you think he's totally off base.

For some reason, the ideas he posted (with the exception of KIOI flipping) don't naturally sound ridiculous to me.

Would it make better sense for 97.3 to flip to CHR from Hot AC or to have 106.9 start off as CHR? Or maybe neither?

It's not just this recent round of predictions - look back on the last 20 pages of this board and you will see...

Here are just a few absurdities

"Max to move to KDFC and Country back to 95.7" - um you need a road map just to decipher that one...why would they go back to country when they just dropped it? And Classical KDFC is a top radio station.

"92.1 going country" Dont think so. It was just bought by Coast who will flip it to AC

"KFOG to go country" C'mon? KFOG is a cash cow with huge ratings - never will happen.

that enough for you or shall I go on?

Stupid Posts

It's just amazing how many stupid posts that go one here. It's fine to speculate, but too many idiots here post "the truth". Like one particular "deejay" here.

It's a shame. I came here to discuss industry matters and it seems this board is filled with PD wanna bes instead of people who actuaally have a clue what's going on. And what's worse...they're allowed to continue posting.

Gee, would you like to be more specific?

Does that mean that you are an actual program director?

Here's an idea: start your own board, invite people to join it, and restrict membership only to people that you feel have credentials that meet your specific criteria, such as no one with rank lower than assistant music director, or jocks with five years of major-market experience -- sort of like the "you must be this tall to ride" bar at Disneyland.

I think that the great joy of reading this board is that you get a little of everything: there are a few verifiable industry experts, a few who have some insider cred, and a few who are just along for the fun of it -- you know, the ones who consistently post stuff like "I think Clear Channel should flip Live 105 to CHR and then turn KNBR into an oldies station to replace KFRC..."

If you don't like a post, move on to the next one. (That's what I do.) If you have something specific that you'd like to discuss, post it. (That's what I do.) And if you think some (or most) of us are stupid, nothing is forcing anyone to stick around here.

I know you have a real background in radio, and that you've actually worked at some great stations. I hope you won't get too frustrated when wannabees (I'm one of 'em) sometimes post stuff that is off-the-wall. When you see stuff like that, smile, shrug it off, and post something brilliant that us bottom-feeders will eat up.

Re: Stupid Posts

Speaking as one of the moderators, the only time I have a problem is when people with no cred post things as if they were fact.

Speculation, opinion, and rumors are fine with me if the poster just has the courtesy to label as such in their posts.

I agree. However, certain members have posted info and have not labled it as such. And have been allowed to contiune to post.

Which is why I lose my temper so often.

FYI (F Everyone's I, in fact), I moderate ten boards here, and on some I am the only mod. So I don't always notice everything here right away ... which is why we have multiple mods.

But I have taken -- and will continue to take -- action against those who abuse the boards and cause unnecessary difficulties. I have stopped caring about what people think about me when I have to take a hard line; if people cannot tell that my actions as a moderator are separate from my statements as a board participant, they have the problem, not me.

Nope that's enough.

I wasn't agreeing with him--just curious to hear how you would respond.

I think country could be a niche format in SF. I will agree based on my very general knowledge of demos in the Bay Area that country will never be a ratings powerhouse.

The right PD, a fresh approach--maybe. It could work and garner around a mid 2 share.

Same thing with rock.
