I am really enjoying the Alice Cooper show on WIMZ. You're right, he does blow the dust off alot of great classics that haven't been played on Knoxville radio in probably 25 years. I'm glad to hear someone besides me has heard Mott The Hoople's version of Ready For Love. Their version is so awesome compared to Bad Company's version. Actually, Mick Ralphs was a member of Mott The Hoope back when they did "Ready For Love" on the All The Young Dudes album in '71. He left Mott The Hoople in '73 to join up with the newly formed Bad Company. "Ready For Love" was his song, so he took it with him to Bad Company and they re-done it on their debut album in 73. The Hoople's version has alot more lyrics and longer instrumentals which are just nothing short of amazing! Alice does an unbeleivable job doing his show. He's not afraid to go deep into the 60's and 70's and the stories he tells behind those songs makes them all the more interesting. It's cool hearing this from a man that was there right in the heart of the music during it's most creative time! Mott The Hoople was an awesome group that deserves atleast a little airtime. But, that's like Janis Joplin also - the mother of Rock N Roll. She hardly ever gets any air time and man, she was a major player in the late 60's. I've also heard Brownsville Station's original version of "Smokin In The Boy's Room" on Alice Cooper's show too. A regular WIMZ listener would think that Motley Crue was the only one doing that song.
We've had Tom Kent on twice here in Knoxville. The first time was back when 93.1 went disco on us and operated under the name "Cool 93.1." He only came on Saturday afternoons though. He was on about 6 months then the station changed formats and his show was dumped. Then Oldies 95/106 picked him up and then they too changed formats and dumped him again. He did a good job keeping his show fresh and interesting. I think he would have fit in really well if Jack would have kept him when they changed from Oldies. He played alot of the same music and it would satisfy the Jack listeners' cravings to hear a regular human DJ on the station.
