Alice PD is Out!

Format change or just another sucker trying to get along with the morning show and trying to figure out what Modern AC means today?

Alice: Great idea in its time, but that time has passed. They have had a nice long run in this format. I'm not sure, but hasn't Alice lasted longer than KRQR did?

I would love to see them give Chill a try, like they do on their HD2 channel. I think this market would be very receptive to that format. Just wishful thinking that anybody around here will try it though.

If you are thinking of "Chill" which is a hybrid (more hip) version of Smooth Jazz, no chance.

The SJ demo is already very niche and unfortunately dying off as SJ stations cannibalize their own talent to put on the artists in place of radio hosts. Also, the format is not growing new listeners, and it has a hard time cherry picking from other formats (AC's or Urban AC's) as it is.

Unless there is another "Chill" I am missing, no company in their right mind would waste a good signal doing an extreme niche format like a "Chill". Then again, there is Movin!

Rocker 83-96, Alice 97-prez...so, couple of years before you can call them even.

Alice, like most over duplicated music stations, needs a kick in the personality butt. Give listeners a REASON to ditch the ipod from time to time. A heavy dose of SF humor, music, and flamboyant sense has been missing. Maybe it's just a matter of making fun of themselves and the format a little more, like they did in the 90s.

There is still huge value in FM content delivery, but the content needs to be amped considerably at 97.3.
Accomodate the listeners, not the auditorium tests. Alice isn't dead, Alice music for the sake of Alice music is.

"She joined CBS Radio's hot AC KLLC in late 2005 from adult alternative KMTT, Seattle and produced an immediate ratings jump. But the recent 12+ ratings for "[email protected]" 1.8 to 1.5 to 1.3, Spring to Fall. No replacement named yet..." Radio-Info News

What she produced was the good timing to arrive at the same time that Howard Stern was leaving. Sarah and No Name rode that audience shift to number one and, of course, back down again, taking Alice with them. Sarah got rich. Chris Mays got the boot.

Look for CBS corporate to put a PD in that will drop all of the bad testing, AAA crossover music and put more pop and hit music back on Alice.

Alice's music is good for a modern AC. I fail to see the "bad testing" "AAA" titles you refer to.

It's about time! She really took the ratings to new lows! What ALICE needs is someone who can focus the station, put compelling benchmarks on the station and target the entire Bay Area besides the City and Marin. There are 2 people who come to mind that can do just that and 1 person is already in the building! God knows this person helped to put ALICE in the world of hurt they're in right now and helped to force Z-95 out of the CHR format in 2002.

Enjoy. But I'll bet you hear musical changes in the very near future.

I'd think a pop/CHR approach, more similar to KIOI than KOIT, is where Alice might be headed. I'd also bet on Webster and/or Jane being replaced. It's time to dump all the "old" Alice stuff - except the Sara & No Name show, which gives the station the only decent numbers that it has.

First of all, I've been gone from the Bay Area since 1999, so lots has changed. You mention Sara and No Name. What happened to Vinnie?

With KOME and KSJO gone, doesn't the area need a good rocker? From what I've read on here Live 105 stinks. Just my 2 cents (which means nothing).

Vinnie became an alcoholic and left the show. No joke.

Thats really sad to hear. I thought he and Sara were good together, although I was more of a Lamont & Tonelli and Sully fan when they were on KSJO.

Hope Vinnie has dried out and resumed life now.

The saddest part about it was that he apparently was never a drinker, and over the course of a few months, became an alcoholic who couldn't show up to work functions.

It wasent just alcohol, he was also dealing with some emotional issues and some drugs I believe.
You will be happy to know, that he is now doing better, and is doing a morning show elsewhere in the US.
I have an email, from him. If I can find it, I will give you the station website/call letters so you can see recent pictues of him.

Actually The Rocker started in 1982, not 1983. In fact 1982 was when a good number of Rockers (AOR) started in San Francisco including KQAK-98.9 and KFOG-104.5. I also think that KRQR switched from AOR to CLASSIC ROCK in 1993 but switched back AOR (or is that Active Rock?) in 1995 with a lot more current rock but ended it in 1996 in favor of Alice. So that is 13 years of KRQR and currently almost 12 years of Alice (which started in 1996 not 1997), so DeadAudicy is right, that it is about even.
