Listening to this station online, its no fun as what it used to be. I liked Alice when it was leaning on 80s new wave and new ALT ROCK.. it just sounds like any other hot ac now.. Is there any station in Denver to hear the retro 80s anymore,,, Not the soft stuff, but the rock-new wave stuff.. i remember when Alive, KTCL, and the former 96.5 The Peak all had similar formats with an Alt Rock format, but with plenty of 80s thrown in. KTCL used to play alot of dance-electronica too, it was a true alternative, now its just an EMO station.. Denver radio seems boring now.. KS 104 is gone,, Y-108 is gone, the peak is gone, and Alice and KTCL are a shell of their former selves.
 
KIMN 100.3 plays some 80's along with some currents. And at noon during the week they do an all 80's lunch hour.
 
When Alice started out it did have a cooler edge to it. Somewhere between pop alt and threw in the occasional surprise track. The Peak was also very well produced and good musically, and KTCL did lean more towards electronica and flashbacks. I respect TCL but musically, they don't excite me anymore. It was a good era in radio when these three stations had the sound MWC references.

The only one that comes to mind is 105.5 Jack but sadly they are in the mist of a almost true rumor of being sold. And of course streaming is no option is there, but you can always listen to ROCK 102.9 they play alot of 80's rock, and so does KYEN at www.werocktherockies.com so there are more choices for you, even though they are not in Denver but I would think those 2 non-commercial stations would satisfied your hunger for that kind of music. :)
 
Denver is a boring market, they got way too many of the same format, too many rock stations, too many country, FM talk stations, not much variety IMO.

You'd better go back & do your homework. Last time I checked, there was only ONE FM Talker & that was KKFN.

Mind you, I don't count KCFR because they do a variety of things in addition to talk.

I guess I was wrong about that but still - there is too many of the same format. Majority of CC Denver FM's are rockers.

OK.....Technically you're correct. But seriously though, how many people do you think can hear that station??

At least people can hear KKFN, which is A LOT for what can be said for that station 101.5 that pretends to speak "The Truth" otherwise known as KTNI ;D

Back to the original topic....I TOTALLY agree with MWC. Alice 106 was one of my all time favorite stations from about 1995-98 (the height of the "Lillith Fair" era). The first time I heard them was 1994, and they actually had more of a rhythmic AC edge to them and I recall hearing them play Collage "I'll Be Loving You". During '95, they evolved to what became the Modern AC format. Star 98.7 in L.A. and Alice were the first pioneers to popularize that format. I have an aircheck from the summer of '95 where the music ranged anywhere from Alanis Morrisette "You Oughta Know" to Jade "Every Day Of The Week" to Big Head Todd & The Monsters "Bittersweet". They had a great lunch hour show called "The Lost 80s Lunch" and also would play some 80s metal at night. While they played a lot of 80s new wave and 90s Modern AC tracks, they would also spike some unconventional records. On a weekend in September 1997, I heard Commodores "Brick House" and Coolio "1,2,3,4" on a Friday Night and then play Don Henley/Stevie Nicks "Leather and Lace" the following Saturday Morning. They had a bit of a "Jack" quality to them. Alice actually reported to BDS as a CHR for about 2-3 years because of the wide variety in playlist and lack of a true CHR in the market at the time. Frank Wood and Gregg Cassidy and were programming geniuses IMO. The personality of the station is still there, but musically have become cookie cutter in recent years.
