Alice's Restaurant on KZPS for Turkey-day?

Heard one of the jocks on KZPS promoting the airing of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" at noon and 5pm on Thanksgiving. He made it sound like this was some kind of tradition. I'm usually out of town for turkey day and have never heard of this before. Anyone heard of this before or is it just BS?

It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without Arlo Guthrie and Alice's Restaurant. The song, which runs approximately 25 minutes, is actually titled "Alice's Restaurant Massacree." It was released in 1967 and in '69, a movie. There was also a 4 minute version, which of course, did not have the monologue. In 1970 while serving at AFRT (American Forces Radio & TV) on Okinawa, a young Marine decided to play the long version at 2 in the morning. Not a good decision. The anti-war stance of Arlo Guthrie was not appreciated by the military--especially by a certain General who just happened to be listening. After getting my ass chewed the next day, I was lucky that I didn't lose a stripe and end up in the brig.

It is tradition, going back to Bo and Jim's time at Q102, and even before that. While we're at, another song that's always good to hear on Thanksgiving is "Fifty Plates To Feed My Brother."

I remember KZEW doing it before Bo and Jim. It's just not turkey day without hearing it at least once. ;D

Geez.. I remember hearing it all through 1968 on 98.7 KNUS pretty much daily, sometimes twice a day!

There is usually one station per market who'll play Alice's Restaurant on T-Day, normally at noon. If they don't advertise that by some means or another, then shame on them.

You guys can give this a rest now, Thanksgiving is over.
