Do any of the Jackson area stations still play "Alice's Restaurant " by Arlo Guthrie on Thanksgiving Day ? I remember as a teen , each Thanksgiving Day at exactly 12 noon WZZQ-FM would play this song . Years after ZZQ became WMSI (Miss 103 ) , Arrow 94 WTYX took up this tradition , but of course they are gone as well .

I honestly don't know the answer to your question but I did get to experience this once when I was in Fort Wayne. Doc West, morning show host/PD of WXKE (Rock 104) plays the song every Thankgiving @ noon. Now while the song itself is just the song (who hasn't heard it?) but I just thought it was great because it truly was a local tradition and people would actually tune in just for it and even talk about it all over town.

And I'm listening to the song right now in fact! We're sittin' on the group w bench. ;)

I remember hearing WSSO in Starkville playing it, this was when the song was current! Now that was entertainment!

How many songs did the jock have to drop from the hour to make up for the 18+ minutes? :D

I know we played it annually at noon since I've been PD up thru last year on Classic Rock WXRG/Biloxi, when we fliiped to Classic Hits GO-FM.

Z 106 used to play it but not not always at noon. It was usually in the morning. But now that so many stations are so tightly controlled they might not play it anymore, unless they could find a cover version by Bob Seger, since Z-106 insists on playing a Bob Seger record every half hour. As soon as I hear the saxophone on "Turn the Page" I reach for the knob.

wnap indianapolis had a period of time it played alices resturant every night at 11at night or midnight in around 1970.
