Alice's Restaurant?

Is anyone playing it this year? I'm thinking WZLX might not since it's an iHeart station now. Have they played it in recent years?

A useless non song I despise.

Doesn't WUMB play it ?

It does. I'm an old folkie -- and I even like Arlo's music, for the most part -- but you are spot on with your description. It's a non-song with a narrative that was mildly amusing when I first heard it but is unfunny and unendurable today.

Also, I'd be shocked if iHeart would be so heavy-handed as to kill off that puzzlingly popular Boston radio tradition on WZLX in an attempt to homogenize all of its classic rockers.

HJY plays it, not that I listen for it but I know I've heard in recent years there. Pete Silvia typically works the holiday and I know I've heard him intro it.

This comes up every year...can someone explain to me why this is a "thing" at thanksgiving?

I remember the movie and the song...but don't understand why it comes up every year.

The events he speaks/sings about happened on or near the holiday in Western Massachusetts.

Alice’s Restaurant has been a tradition on Detroit radio probably since the song was new. There are fewer stations left to play it now. This year maybe only Classic Rock WCSX. Back in the day, you would hear it on several “Progressive Rock” stations at the same time at 12 O’Clock Noon every Thanksgiving.

I just love the ignorant posts about a company that none of you have probably ever worked for, if any of you have even ever been in the business. Do you really think Entercom would have left everything the same if they had bought it? Did you hear what David Field said about CBS? How they pretty much neglected these stations for the last decade because they knew they were selling them? He said they've been "flying blind" with no research for years. You can bash I-Heart all you want I guess, but Entercom wouldn't have just let it continue as it was, either. I guess we'll never know will we?

As I was driving home from the annual Thanksgiving Day high school football game at about 12:10 p.m. searching through the presets for some music other than Alice’s Restaurant, it was playing on 92.5 WXRV (The River), 94.1 WHJY, 100.1 WWFX (The Pike) and 100.7 WZLX.
