All Access 6/23 Tom Murphy

The World Famous TOM MURPHY is free and clear from his COX/JACKSONVILLE non-compete this MONDAY (6/27). Will crosstown RENDA Oldies WKQL (KOOL 100.7) pick him up the next day, or will it be CLEAR CHANNEL? Reach out to TOM at (904) 268-5085 or [email protected].

So, The World Famous IS still around! Glad to hear it! And hopefully we'll be hearing his pipes again soon.

Before Christimas I'd listen to Tom in the evenings on COOL, while I was either cooking dinner or helping my girls w/their homework. Often times they would prefer to do the Twist or sing along w/the Beach Boys instead of doing their reading assignments!

Maybe this go around I'll have the privilege of hearing Tom during my morning drive to work... Can't think of a better way to get the day started!

Love ya, big guy! And thanks for entertaining us for so many years! You're a real pro! Good luck!

These comments about Renda have to be falling on deaf ears. How ironic is that. Corporate radio owners who can't hear. It's one thing to be deaf but it's obvious the idiots in Pittsburgh are also just plain dumb. If you give the public a reason to become a loyal listener (like maybe human emotion and someone sounding like their having fun on the radio) they'll flock to your station. Renda isn't interested in generating revenue, they'd rather insult the listener with first level radio school mentality. You guys deserve less than a one share. Just call the station Karrow and keep playing songs like Sweet Home Alabama and City of New Orleans. I've heard 100.7 won first place today at the Radio & Records convention for the worst sounding commercial radio station for the 21st century. Way To Go !!!

If you are so pissed off why don't you pickup the phone and call Tony renda in Pittsburgh. I'm sure he will be happy to talk to you about your feelings.

Yea, like he'll want to hear what you or I have to say.

I can't believe all of the attention that 100.7 has gotten on this board in the last few months. It obviously has a lot of you guys (as well as myself) bewildered and amazed that what is on the air has gone on so long. It is an embarrasment to Jax.

There IS one good thing that may offer a little hope for the stations future success. The old COOL had a huge cume. It was typically in the top 3 every book. Because the new KOOL has not yet been marketed, most of that cume probably isn't even aware that the new KOOL exists. So, IF Renda ever decides to fix it and subsequently market this station, there could be a sizeable audience waiting out there.

Only time will tell....

In the meantime, how about those Spurs!

I think all of you are full of it i still think all you guy want is 96.9 minus scott walker
to be honest I thought yes they were better than 100.7 but they were DULL as compared to 92.9 in ocala and 98.3 in the savannnah market and the charleston
market.
and the bottom line is why would you an owner want to spend a lot of money when the format is a hard sell anyway. I personally like the format a hope it stay and get better but i think i realistic and believe they will not spend the money the station is only supporting 96.1 anyway.
thats my opion.

Gee, dude, proof your post before submitting!

My opinion.... an owner with high expectations and the need for bringing in truckloads of revenue would not be interested in an oldies format. However, an owner that wanted a station that would make a great combo buy for the remainder of the cluster would be smart. It may not rake in the elephant dollars, but it certainly has appeal.

Big Oldies 92.9/Ocala

> they were DULL as compared to 92.9 in ocala

Can somebody please explain to me this station?? Asterisk is indeed a strange group.

I lived in Gainesville from 94-98, and presenced the involution (yes, "in" and not "ev"), of this radio station. It used to be owned by one Bob Hauck, who had live and local jocks on "Q-Lite" 24 hours a day..Granted, it was strange..The mic processing was funny, it sounded like the PA system at an old Doctor's office, and the jocks got away with long breaks and didn't sound consistent. Most people would say it was indeed small town radio...But something about it was good....

Then Asterisk took over, and thought they could 'do it better'....On the surface, it did sound better...The mic processing improved, the breaks shortened and overall, there was consistency..But reading between the lines, it was a bigger joke...They fired practically all of the jocks except the AM drive jock, and used TRS jocks *at the same time* they were on 102.3, only using different names. Whether it was "Tommy Rockwell" or "Mike Reynolds", some people sound the same and even deaf people can tell. Obviously they were running it on the cheap..Very cheap. The really funny one was the knockoff Delilah "Friday Epley" via satellite, and the faked tradeoff where (I guess it was) Tommy/Mike 'talking' to recorded banter of Friday and her "coffee". I have heard areas that were unrated, or that pay Arbitron to rate them that do better radio.

So I happen to tune this station in now as I found myself in Central Florida a while ago, with their new "Big Oldies" format, and it seems that now, they're *actually* breaking the bank on the station..It actually sounds good, consistent, and the jocks actually sound like they're either live, or not borrowed from across the hall at Thunder. What brought about the "Epiphany" of spending money on WMFQ?
