Also aforementioned but misspelled, Fred Deane (formerly of FMQB) : DeaneMediaSolutions.com

--- Unfortunately the DMS Mediabase Charts have not been updated for several months, some longer than others.

Which leads to this site for selected Mediabase charts and music news: HITS Daily Double
--- click on drop down menu arrow next to "Radio" to access Mediabase charts and adds.

The HitsDailyDouble.com Mediabase charts are more easily readable than
the also aforementioned direct link to the Mediabase Charts: Mediabase - Account Login

--- more charts available here than on HitsDailyDouble.com
I remember Mediabase allowed you to request a song via a request line. Unfortunately, that's since been taken down (WQLQ's is still open: OnlineRequestLine)

I don't understand how MediaBase, which is a data collection organization, would be "playing" any kind of music itself.

If they had such a feature, I never knew about it.

You can download or stream songs from their chart. There's a little green arrow that you click on.

That I get.... but a "request line" is new to me.

Very sad to hear about All Access, I'm wondering how we are going to get airplay from the Mediabase charts.
You can subscribe directly,

I've mentioned this before: the engineer at one station where I was PD had a nicely lettered notice that said, "all home electronics, cassette recorders and portable radios to be repaired by the engineering department can be deposited here".

The sign, with an arrow, was on the wall right above the trash shoot.

Similar to the WQLQ-FM attachment in the prior post, I used to see many similar Mediabase station pages (mostly from iHeart Media) with song titles and check boxes - really an "Online Request Form" rather than a "Request Line" that would in theory have your "request results" tabulated by the station and used in their "research".

On message/bulletin boards such as the Pulse Music Boards, there would be posts by fans ("stans"? record company reps?) of artists mentioning that their favorite artist was "going for adds with their new song XXXXX and you should get your votes/requests in to your favorite station [link(s) to Online Request Form(s) provided] to help run that song up the airplay charts" or similar wording.
(Obviously used with current-based formats.)

Think about the "fan armies" that have sprung up over the last decade or so that have tried to promote/push their favorites via social media. That seemed to be the implied tenor of the Pulse Music Board posts.

EDIT: link to a prime example of an artist getting out the word to their fans to "request our artist's song as much as you can" (it was limited to one request page filled out and submitted per day) - (now dead) links to many station request pages included:

Not sure if people outside the industry can subscribe. However, they post all of their charts on the outside of their site. Just pick the format you're interested in, click on it, and you will see that week's Top 40. Unlike Billboard, their published charts are not behind a paywall.

As with so many "industry" trade publications and data sources, one can be a record label or a podcaster or whatever is relevant to the MediaBase service and buy a subscription. I have never been part of the negotiation, so I have no idea at all of what it costs!

Mediabase is not a trade publication. To subscribe, one has to be either in the music industry, or at one of the reporter radio stations.

But as I said, one does not have to subscribe to see the published charts. To see the underlying data is something else.

Mediabase is not a trade publication.
That is why I said "data source".

Like other services such as BIA's Media Access Pro, it is a subscription, though.

Controlled circulation trade publications (which are generally free) require some type of profession or employment in the magazine's general area of coverage. You fill in a form indicating what degree of authority/responsibility you have over purchases. That data is compiled and the publication tells advertisers "12,000 broadcast equipment buyers who specify, recommend or approve over $180,000,000 in new equipment and service buys annually:"

Magazines that are not controlled circulation, like Billboard, have no subscription requirements. Same for other paid industry trades, like Radio Ink.

And if you want to subscribe to Radio Ink, what they want to know is whether to charge your credit card or to deposit your check. While they will use subscriber data to set ad rates, their main criteria as to allowing a subscription is the subscription price.

That's what Mediabase is, and why general posters on RD will likely be unable to get a subscription. There is a specifically assigned regional rep who oversees subscriptions for an area.

For people who just want to see published charts, which is what AllAccess provided, they're free without subscription.

Radio stations could pay in barter. The regional reps are probably from Premiere Radio Networks, which it is or was a division of. It's not just radio that uses it however. Universities would subscribe for research purposes. Some indie artists would subscribe to see if their song was getting any airplay. Journalists.

Their former competition, BDS took cash subscriptions from anybody until the end but it was not cheap.

And, of course, the labels. But one issue is that labels are spending less on reaching and researching radio while increasing their focus on streams. MedaBase is growing in its position there, and you can even compare stream play with radio play.

And that is way more in terms of standard reports and custom reports than just a "hit list" which is what most music fans want.

BDS was focusing heavily on streaming data the last time I saw it. The rep I spoke to was pointing this out to me, making it out to be something they did better than the competition.

Another view of Mediabase Charts:

Pollstar has links to all 24 of the Mediabase charts, with the added bonus of showing 50 positions per chart with spin counts for "this week" and "last week" included in each position slot (via drop-down menu):

Mediabase home page which shows all 24 charts with 40 positions each, no spin counts but links to music videos included:

(As BigA mentioned: no account subscription or login needed to view charts; just scroll down the home page)
