All Access: WTVN Promotion Draws Latino Groups' Ire

If WTVN apologizes for this brilliant promotion, OAC, La Raza, et al should apologize for their complete disregard of federal and state law regarding immigration.

Again, I ask: What part of ILLEGAL do these clowns not understand?!

WTVN got what they wanted. Free promotion.

Like they need it? They're #1

So why as the number one talker does Rush say things that create headlines? Free promotion.

Same reason WTVN, as #1 in 55+ on in a key demo or simply the 12+ beauty contest did it. Free pub.

And let's face it. They 5 o'clock apology is all about free pub too.

Exactly. Anyone who makes this a racial issue is outing that it's one group largely responsible for breaking the law. I thought the promo was hilarious; my parents entered and did not win.

The really inappropriate thing about the TVN promo was offering "a weekend chasing aliens and spending cash in the desert." Inappropriate because it didn't say, "chasing illegal aliens." There are plenty of legal aliens, including tourists, guest workers, legal permanent residents and student visa resident aliens.

In fact, in justifying the bit to The Distort, Elliot said, "It comes down to the word illegal for me." (C414B shaded the word in red here, as well, in supporting the promo.) So then why was the word left out? Perhaps it was inadvertent, but they lumped legals in with illegals and thereby promoted animosity toward anyone with a Spanish accent. Any of us would be Aliens if legally visiting Mexico or any other country, and hopefully we wouldn't be chased by a radio contest winner.

Or was the on-air phrase in fact, "a weekend chasing illegal aliens and spending cash in the desert," with All Access screwing up by leaving the word out? If that's the case, never mind.

If there's that much wooing going on, maybe it's time to revive the Love Songs format. But I wouldn't listen myself...too wussy for my tastes.
