The really inappropriate thing about the TVN promo was offering "a weekend chasing aliens and spending cash in the desert." Inappropriate because it didn't say, "chasing illegal aliens." There are plenty of legal aliens, including tourists, guest workers, legal permanent residents and student visa resident aliens.
In fact, in justifying the bit to The Distort, Elliot said, "It comes down to the word illegal for me." (C414B shaded the word in red here, as well, in supporting the promo.) So then why was the word left out? Perhaps it was inadvertent, but they lumped legals in with illegals and thereby promoted animosity toward anyone with a Spanish accent. Any of us would be Aliens if legally visiting Mexico or any other country, and hopefully we wouldn't be chased by a radio contest winner.
Or was the on-air phrase in fact, "a weekend chasing illegal aliens and spending cash in the desert," with All Access screwing up by leaving the word out? If that's the case, never mind.
