I have noticed a few all-Christmas stations that break format for things like weekend syndicated shows. Most stations that flip to Christmas will preempt shows like Backtrax USA or AT40 replays and simply make good on the barter spots. AT40 replays even offer alternate Christmas shows. But a few stations break away from their all Christmas format to air these shows. Is there any advantage to this at all? If I'm plugging myself as the place to go for Christmas music, I don't want anyone ever having a moment where they are tuning in with the family in the car headed to a holiday event on the weekend only to find a non-holiday show airing. Especially if there is competition.

In Yakima, KARY-100.9 breaks away to air the American Top 40 Christmas Special TWICE on Sundays. Tom Kent (weeknights and Ultimate Party) and Yacht Rock go on an extended sayonara until after Christmas. So does the 70s/80s AT40. The AT40 Christmas special plays the same Christmas songs at the same times, so even to this Christmas music fan, I tune out. You know what the next song is and when it will air. I believe it was produced sometime in the late '90s or early '00s. Kasem mentions in promos that we will hear "Celine Dion", and her version of O Holy Night didn't come out until 1998.
I once remember catching Mix 98.7 at the right time in playing all-Christmas music some years ago and suddenly, playing Her Diamonds by Rob Thomas. Then they switched back to Christmas music.
Before switching formats, the former 105.1 the River would interrupt the Christmas music to air Southern Miss and New Orleans Saints football.

Many times, stations can’t stream sporting events. I remember tuning in to WWL on the Audacy app during LSU and New Orleans Saints games and they would repeat the warning that they couldn’t stream the games. Rather than just putting it on repeat, it would’ve been cool if they played CBS Sports Radio or some other content during the games.
