All-digital HD AM Radio in Seattle and across the US

Nothing has changed or been decided yet. The Commission issued an NPRM (Notice of Proposed Rule Making), to allow AM stations to go full-digital if they choose. I believe the comment period for the NPRM ended recently. Even if the Commission finds in favor of the plan, there are several technical parameters that need to be determined should a station be allowed to run only digital mode, before such a rule change can be made. Things like: determination/measurement of output power, differences in the RF mask, night propagation for full digital (RMS vs. peak) given existing analog protection limits, etc. Just this handful alone, could take a while to re-write.

The link you sent is just Radio World and certain equipment vendors starting the conversation, probably to gauge the interest and whether money will be associated with the interest.
