Can a currents based urban format like this work today in 2012? I sort of don't even know why I'm asking because I'm about to find out. I guess the real question should instead be; Does it make sense to go that route today? Are there enough new hip hop hits to successfully do this?
If a niche is to be filled, then I'd think you'd also want to include some r&b hits as well. Why have an urban format designed in such a way that certain Miguel, Beyonce, and other types of r&b hits still wont be heard regularly on any local stations?
I'll give more details soon - I don't want to "leak too many details" now.
I have a feeling that r&b will be added. Either that, or they'll slightly go rhythmic to a degree.
