All Hit 95XIL

I remember WXIL in the mid to late 1970’s; they shook up the area radio. I believe they were a stand alone FM. WXIL has about the best signal in that market (covering a lot of trees too). At one time they had a studio in the Mall with the window looking into the control room. You could see REAL LIVE DJ’s, turntables, carts etc. I think they were playing some kind of AOR hybrid format. They really made life hard for some of the AM’s.
 
Yes WXIL went on the air in the Grand Central Mall in 1975. I first did weekends, then morning drive after Kemosabe Joe left. We had a 50kw signal with an all star air staff we took the market by storm, the only down side was the sales staff did not have "The Good Old Boy" connections that WADC/WIBZ, WKYG and WPAR had. I left in spring 1977. Their are air checks on Uncle Ricky's site
 
I worked there twice...once in the late 80s and then again in the early 90s when the station I worked for was purchased by their owners.

They were a hot AC when I was there, but are now CHR/Top 40. Larry Hughes has been there since Jesus was a Cub Scout, and could be a good resource if you want to track him down. While they don't stream, you can find their website at www.95xil.net
