All Hits 95.5 in Eureka?

I went to Eureka this weekend for a wedding and I found a nice little nugget on the dial @ 95.5.

"The New All-Hits 95.5"

What's their story, I couldn't find them on Radio Locator, in fact RL says that K-LOVE is still on 95.5

Looks like they broke off from the satellite-fed K-Love, and morphed into an actual locally-run radio station

Wish this happened more often, especially with all those religious stations eating up the FM bandwidth with their out-of-market translators.

The article is inconclusive, but implies that the format is Classic Hits. Is this the case? If so, why? Does Eureka already have KWPT and KXGO doing very similar formats?

Also, what is the format of KNJY (the new 106.3 frequency that recently went on the air)? Radio Locator has no format info on that station yet.

Yeah, Eureka is another very lame radio market. KWPT used to be a CHR/Rhythmic, it only lasted a little over 3 years, but at one time was programmed very well.

KSLG.com has it's ups and downs, the last time I was in the market I wasn't too impressed. They have done better.

I had a friend check into KNJY, it appears that its almost a gospel station. I don't know for sure though.

Ahh, The Party! One day someone will bring back a fun CHR station to Eureka. Until then, I'll remain a non-visitor to Humboldt County. It's too depressing.

KSLG's doing fairly well, and the Point's added more live air talent than it used to. I don't know why anyone would launch another classic hits up there.

I thought there was a new station up there that was going to be AC. 106.3 or something?

You were probably listening to KZCC (FM), Trinidad. This is owned by Airen Broadcasting (Suzanne Rogers) out of Sacramento. It's been a tough construction job since there's no power at the transmitterr site and they have to shuffle fuel to a generator every couple of days. There's a bit of a fire drill going on there that probably blew K-Love off the dial. There was a new auction CP allocated to McKinleyvill on 95.1 awarded by auction to William McCutcheon out of Los Angeles. McCutcheon found a way to move his allocation (KMDR) from 95.1 to 107.7 still at McKinleyville with an upgrade to class C0. This requires KNHT, Rio Dell, owned by Southern Oregon University, to move from 107.3 to 102.5.

Remember the good ol' days when running a radio station was about programming and sales? Now it's about moving the chess pieces around to see who gets Poland and who gets left out.

All Hits 95-5 (KZCC) has a Classic Hits format which includes some 90's "Hot AC" titles. It shares most of it's library with 100.3 The Point, and many titles with 93.1 KXGO and Kool 105.5. Does Eureka really need 4 Classic Hits/Rock-oriented stations? Why isn't someone doing a Mainstream AC format?

Power 96.3 (KFMI) is Hot AC or CHR, depending on the time of day. What is Bicoastal thinking? What kind of genius is programming KFMI?

99-1 Jenny FM (KJNY) is Eureka's CHR station, which includes current Country titles in the mix. KJNY sticks to the familiar hits, and is well-programmed. However, their audio files sound really "grainy" and low quality, and the station imaging is very low-budget. Why are so many Eureka stations playing low quality MP3's?

"Enjoy" 106.3 KEJY is Dial Global's "America's Best Music" satellite Adult Standards format. The audio sounds like they're using a low quality internet stream for the STL.

I tried finding a website for KZCC but couldn't...

All I can say is in comparison to the competition, Lost Coast's cluster is even more impressive. Decent websites, good on air people, musical diversity and a real community mindset. I don't see these guys knocking off the Point.
