With a weak, crappy digital tuner on a portable radio, that's the ONLY station I can pick up in Butler. The walls in the building where I work must be lined with lead; cell phones can't penetrate, but WLER does!

Does anyone know what satellite service they're playing? And what happened to the "Dead Air" guy, which seemed to be their only live airshift, from 9:00 to midnight?

hey, i'm glad you like our station. i wish we had a stronger signal, but.....can only do so much. contrary to one of the previous posts, we are live all day long, until about seven. we'd like to have more live, but need to build sales first. need to hear more from listeners.

we changed the format about a year ago. as for the dead air program, it was paid for with anti-tobacco money. the dept of health pulled the $, so the show went away. it's a shame, cause it wa really popular, but not enough advertisers to keep it going.

I too like the music on WLER. It's more upbeat than STAR, more focused than BOB, less repetitive than KISS. This is the type of format that is desperately needed in Pittsburgh on a signal that could cover the entire area. Are you listening Keymarket?

The only thing I'd change on WLER is to get a kickass jingle package.

Well, right now we're looking at a number of different options including moving our tower, upgrading equipment and the like. But, because we actually have three stations, WISR 680 AM, WBUT 1050 AM and All Hitz, as with so many other things, they all cost money and we can't always move as quickly as we'd like. For so long we've been just "Butler" stations. It is definitely our intent to become more regional and do a better job of positioning the FM. We're finding that there are significantly more people listening throughout the Pittsburgh area. Our FM signal is strong down through the North Hills, out to the airport, the South Hills and down through the Allegheny Valley, New Ken, Natrona Heights, Verona, Leechburg, etc. It's once you get closer to the city that we get drowned out.

Honestly, we've had a difficult time convincing advertisers in these areas, even in our own backyard like Cranberry Township, that we are a viable media outlet and can give them a entirely new listening audience, and therefore, potential customers.

Since you folks seem to be tuned in to things, we are looking for some additional on-air people and sales staff.

Thanks again, I REALLY appreciate the comments.

What is the format of your station? Sounds like a mix of Bob, Star, and Kiss. I'd love to hear it!<P ID="signature">______________

This may sound stupid, but it's about halfway between adult contemporary and hot adult contemporary/top 40. The biggest difference between us and the others that you mention is that we are locally owned. Therefore, ALL of our music is programmed here, not on a satellite feed. That being said, we do have the VH-1 Weekly Rewind with Rachel Perry and Hollywood Confidential with Leeza Gibbons on the weekends that we pick up off the satellite. But other than that, it's one of our on-air people, Jay Kline, formerly with Hot 101 in Youngstown, who programs all of the music.

Hopefully, before the end of this year, we'll be digital and streaming on our website, insidebutlercounty.com.

Once again, thanks, keep those cards and letters coming.

John
