All in the Family marathon on TVLAND

Probably over now unless they're continuing it today on the MLKing holiday
but hope you were able to catch this. Great show--writing, acting, etc.
So many phrases and lines pop into one's head: Stifle; Meathead; Dingbat;
lil' girl; ya figured that out, hah?; Edith, get me a beer, hah?; You're a pip, etc.

More than a few dramatic moments mixed in with the comedy. What other comedy show ends an episode with a vigilante getting blown up in his car? Edith was raped
and later her character was killed off (in between, she was severely depressed
and lost her faith when her transvestite friend Beverly LaSalle was killed), etc.

There were Archie's malapropisms: When Edith got menopause, she had to go to the
"groinocologist". A big labor union was the "UFO-CIA".

Noticed that even though in the "Archie Meets Mike" episode that Mike says he's
from Chicago, Rob Reiner seemed to have a NYC accent (maybe just me, but...) Checked IMDB.com and found out that he indeed is from Gotham:
both Reiner and his dad Carl were born in the Bronx.

Gee, our old LaSalle ran great..

I caught many of the episodes this weekend, between a lot of the sports action, of course. Watching many of these episodes, especially the eariler shows, gave me a greater appreication for this well-produced, well-put together sitcom. It certainly changed the entire sitcom genre as a whole, where the comedies of the 1950's, 60's, and even the 70's didn't deal with issues nowhere near AITF dealt with. Norman Lear is truly a genius.

My favorite all-time epsiode has to be the Sammy Davis, Jr. appearance, one of the funniest single epsiode I've seen in all years watching television.

I wonder though if CBS is going to do something for AITF's 35th anniversary, they had previous shows for its 20th, 25th, and 30th anniversaries.

In sterotypical NY accent, Archie says Terlet not Toliet. So it makes sense he says hermones, not hormones.

Till he says hermones and hismones. Or "What if my hemoglobins, get mixed up with her shemaglobins."

I love Archie on the Bible....

"Sampson took a jawbone out of the grass and slew the army of the Phillipines." or "Adam and Eve had it pretty soft. They didn't even know they were naked. Until one day, against direct orders, Eve made Adam eat that apple. God got sore told them to put their clothes on and get the hell out."

But nothing beats Archies rendition of the poem on the Statue Of Liberty. (Goes something like)Archie says "Give me your poor, your tired, your deadbeats, your bumbs, where they are free to live in their own seperate sections, and if you go into their section they will kick your butt."

Archie on nationality... "Who helps guys like me out? If you mess with a colored the NAACP comes down on you, mess with a mick and the politicians screw you over, mess with a wop and he calls his uncle in Sicily or if he's too poor Jersey. And oh brother try messin' with a Jew. The whole Israel air force swoopith down on you and kickith the crapola out of you."

My only complaint about the marathon was except for the episodes that were multiple parters, TVLAND showed episodes out of order.

Yeah I notice that too.
