I'm sure the famous soap actors could be guest host with Kelly, or The View, or many other shows, as well as guest actors on prime time and cable shows, if they desired. Time will tell, and they most likely will just retire.
Finola Hughes, known for her role on GH, went to AMC, then back to GH, but also did a show on Style some years ago.
It's the younger actors, less established, less famous actors that might have a hard time getting on-screen work again, and might have to get into a new occupation. Generally, what career does the soap actor or actor that is laid off go into?
After
Another World was cancelled in 1999, only a relative few of the actors got other acting jobs.
* A few got to cross over to
ATWT as their
AW characters for various amounts of time
* Linda Dano (Felicia Gallant,
AW) came back to
OLTL as a previous character that ended up crossing over to all the other ABC soaps (her character Rae was looking for a long-lost daughter in all the other ABC soap towns, then after the daughter was found, then she did it again, that time looking for the father of the daughter). She now does charity work and has a line of home decor and accessories on QVC.
* One
AW character (Cass, played by Stephen Schnetzer) crossed to
ATWT and
GL performing various feats of lawyering that somehow couldn't be taken on by anyone already in Oakdale or Springfield (the first time a character from a P&G soap had done that many other soaps since Geoffrey Lumb (as Mitchell Dru) was on
The Brighter Day,
ATWT, and
AW, all as the same character between the late 1950s and 1971). Schnetzer has since had a couple of guest acting roles, but has been mostly visible doing ads and voiceovers.
* Two of
AW's last actors have each gotten into the construction biz. One, John Littlefield (Gary), is now one of the carpenters on
Extreme Makeover:Home Edition. Littlefield got married to his leading lady, Nadine Stenovitch (Josie), since the cancellation.
* Kim Rhodes (Cindy), after an
ATWT crossover and several guest roles, has been playing Carey, the mom on
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
* Some (Charles Keating (Carl), Anna Stuart (Donna), Mark Pinter (Grant)) have had a variety of other fleeting soap roles as well as stage work.
* One of the more unusual post-
AW stories...Judi Evans (Paulina), who has since played 'Bonnie' and 'Adrienne' on
Days, has spent her non-acting time working for an L.A. funeral home selling pre-need funeral plans.
* Evans' son, Austin Luciano, who played Paulina's son Dante as a baby, is already a teen, a big sports fan, who might want to get into acting like his mom but isn't sure yet.
* Eric Morgan Stuart (Chris) has since been an acting coach, most notably on SoapNet's reality series
I Wanna Be A Soap Star.
* His leading lady, Rhonda Ross Kendrick (Toni), has been a singer for some time--not a surprise, since she's Diana Ross' daughter. Oh, and she's a real estate broker on the side.
* Ellen Wheeler (the first and last Marley), after brief
ATWT character crossovers, has directed and produced at
ATWT and
GL, and was
GL's last executive producer before that show's cancellation.
* Out of the limelight completely and supposedly home-happy with kids, include Jensen Buchanan (Vicky/Marley), Matt Crane (Matthew), and Lisa Peluso (Lila). All had brief soap roles soon after
AW but have not been seen in anything recently.
*
AW's longest-running actor, Victoria Wyndham (Rachel), took up painting (she had sculpted before; her work was even included in
AW storylines), and has only done 1 TV role since, a guest shot on
Law & Order: SVU
One of the only past
AW actors currently in soaps, Ricky Paull Goldin (whose 'Dean' role came/went long before the
AW cancellation), 'Jake' on
All My Children, is now having to look for work--again. Goldin has been on
Y&R and
GL between his
AW and
AMC roles.
