All-News FM... Could Radio One Bring It To Philly?

In a couple of weeks from now, Radio One will be launching an all-news station on FM in Houston, replacing a gospel format. The roster will include personalities familiar to Houston listeners, such as Lana and JP.

This begs the question: If this venture in Houston is successful, what are the odds that Radio One could duplicate that success in Philadelphia, perhaps beating CBS and even Merlin to the punch?

(And please, let's not turn this into a, "Radio One killed Y-100 because..." thread. I'm sure a few of you want to go there. Let us not.)

It is interesting that they are dropping Gospel in Houston. It was steadily gaining listeners and should have been gaining revenue. Flipping to the most expensive format to run does not really make sense.

Bu to take on KYW in Philadelphia? Can't see them doing it.

And the official search engine of a Radio One news station would be whatdat.net

(Radio One also killed WDRE before they killed Y100.)
