All News Scoreboard for Major Markets - December 2014

As the holidays draw near, most adult formats from Country to All-News take a hit. Many upper demo adults switch to All-Christmas stations for a good deal of listening. Notice that WTOP Washington, usually #1 book after book, is now #2. And WBBM Chicago, often #1 or #2, is now #3. But when the winter weather hits, most All-News stations regain their lost ratings, and then some.

On the other hand, KCBS, which had been at #2 for most of the year, is now #1 in San Francisco. I also see KYW Philadelphia finishing at #4. For the last few months, KYW was uncharacteristly low. Still in the top 10 but not in the top 5. I'm not sure what gave the station a boost but it's back to its earlier numbers.

1. New York...WINS #7 ... WCBS #13 tie
2. Los Angeles...KNX #10 tie
3. Chicago...WBBM/WCFS(FM) #3
4. San Francisco...KCBS/KFRC(FM) #1 ... KGO*^ #17
5. Dallas...KRLD* #18 tie
6. Houston...No All-News station
7. Washington...WTOP(FM) #2 ... WNEW-FM^ #21
8. Philadelphia...KYW #4
9. Atlanta...No All-News station
10. Boston...WBZ* #5
(11. Detroit...WWJ #4)
(13. Seattle...KOMO-AM-FM #18)
(25. Pittsburgh...KQV* does not subscribe)

* part-time All-News station
^ station started All-News in the last couple of years

All stations are owned by CBS except KGO (Cumulus), WTOP (Hubbard), KOMO (Sinclair) and KQV (Calvary). In parenthesis, I include the ratings for the three All-News stations outside the top 10 markets.

The East Coast had some significant weather this period, that could've helped boost KYW. The format remains important. Thanks for compiling the list, Gregg.
