Will WEEI carry the All Star Game tonight? The home run hitting contest wasn't on last night. ESPN did pull its affiliation from WEEI a little while back, in anticipation of 890/1400 switching to "ESPN Boston", but as of this morning
it was still Spanish-language stuff on 890, at least. Not sure if they'll
switch sometime today and carry the game, as has been suggested.
The WEEI website has a list of games they carry but it hasn't been updated
since March, oops!
While WEEI is no longer an ESPN affiliate it's possible the MLB/Red Sox would
want the game to air somewhere in Boston, and WEEI would be a logical choice
even though they're no longer an affiliate. (If it's not on in Boston--despite
the presence of Terry Francona and more than a few Sox in the lineup--you can
find it elsewhere on distant stations, of course, and most definitely on
Fox 25. I work nights though and radio reception is tough, even for WEEI.
I wonder if Ted Nation will be on tonight instead of the game. Might have to videotape the game tonight and watch it later.
(By the way
as far as WBOQ 104.9 goes, I can't really pick it up on the workroom floor
where I work, though it can be received in the lunchroom, outside areas, etc.;
Sox games start on 104.9 on Thu.)
Finally, I had mentioned before that Ted Sarandis abruptly cuts off teens when
they try to call his show (if they get by his screener). I thought it was just Ted's rule but an article
about a sports-savvy 12 year old in yesterday's Globe said that all of WEEI
has a rule: no callers under 18. What Ted/other hosts should do in this
situation is politely say "Sorry, we don't allow people under 18 to call in"
instead of "would you do me a favor and call back in about 7 years?" (with
Ted sounding annoyed)... In other words, point out that it's a station rule about underaged callers. (Must
