All Things Considered 40th Anniversary Show 5-3-11

Somebody please explain to me why Michelle Norris and Melissa Block are hosting today's show, and talking about bin Laden, instead of Robert Conley hosting the show, using the original bumper music and "clock," and revisiting the stories covered on the very first episode about Vietnam protestors in Washington D.C., and reminiscing with the show's original producers and board-ops?

They gotta cover the news--if they devoted both hours to celebrating themselves, they'd be getting angry E-mails from listeners complaining that NPR was being self-congratulatory and was not fulfilling their duties of reporting the news. You can't win.
