All-time best / worst Phoenix radio stations to WORK for

Best:

KOY under Edens Broadcasting. Great management.
KZZP under Nationwide. Well-financed and innovative.
KTAR under Bonneville. No debt, know peace.
KMLE under Shamrock. Deep pockets.
KNIX under Owens. By far - no contest - the BEST radio owners to work for in Phoenix.

Worst:

(OK, granted there are A LOT of bad broadcast owners out there. The list is too long. Still....

KFNX under FB. Ew.
KXAM under Gerson. Goofy.
KMJK under Mobley. Pay. Your. Bills.
KRDS under Interstate. Stick to real estate.
KFYI under the Beer Baron. Indentured servitude is so 50s.... 1850s, that is...

You know, it really was indentured servitude under the Beer Baron, but I've worked in very few places with such camaraderie. Friendships continue to this day that were forged in the FM side of that dump.

I also didn't appreciate how good I had it under Mike Jorgenson at Sundance until I went to Nationwide. If I got a little more money out of Jorgy, I never would have left... but if I hadn't left I wouldn't have received a life lesson in not being a total a-hole. Sometimes you need to fail.

KESZ under MAC America was a good shop. Wages weren't great but Arizona's Family treated you like family.

What about the current big two companies in Phoenix radio: Clear Channel and CBS Radio?

Or Gumpdusky?

Sandusky wasn't that bad. It took me leaving to realize it wasn't. They don't pay a lot, but it really is a good atmosphere to work at. I have been to other companies in town, that don't treat their employees very well, and have heard many a horror story. The best years though at KUPD/KUKQ were before Sandusky took over. The Melton's and Norris were good people..at least to their employees.
It's all a matter of perspective I guess. If you left on your own, you might realize the company was better than you thought, or you may realize they were a-holes. Chances are if you got let go.. you would think they were a-holes no matter what! LOL
