Patrick's next move
Dan Patrick's next media place of employment has been resolved, but the shape or form it will take is yet to be full explained.
Days after Patrick announced that Aug. 17 will be his final day at ESPN Radio, as well as anything else related to the network, a Chicago-based company called The Content Factor issued a press release Thursday announcing that he has agreed to join up with it.
"Dan isn't leaving radio; he's leading radio to its next logical path, much the way the web, mobile devices and 24/7 wireless connectivity has done for video," said Jimmy de Castro, the company's founder, in a statement.
"He will continue his innovative industry leadership by taking his brand, the `big show,' to broader audiences in the innovative ways they receive their information - via radio, television, internet, podcasts, infopods, mobile devices and beyond."
Keith Olbermann, whose return to radio with Patrick help boost both of their profiles the last few years and recreate the chemistry from their "Big Show" days on "SportsCenter," said Thursday's announcement was the first he had heard of The Content Factory.
"I told Dan directly that I've been exactly where he is, and I'll support him any way I can, and that he needs to do whatever works best for him," Olbermann said Thursday.
Olbermann added that ESPN has "been terrific and I'm very torn" about whether to continue on the network radio show - either hosting it by himself, as the network has offered, or do a shorter version. He could also join Patrick somewhere down the road at another syndicated show.
"I don't think with my other jobs I could give it as much as the company and listeners deserve," said the MSNBC "Countdown" anchor said of taking Patrick's ESPN Radio spot.
"Plus, my motivation has been working with DP. In short, we'll see." ...
