allaccess: "New Party in Vegas?"

> What's up?
>

Could it be the new Simmon's move-in scheduled to hit the air soon? Or is a station changing formats?

The All Access tease mentioned some KLUC vets could be joining PARTY. I wonder if they will be CHR/Rhythmic or CHR/Pop? My guess is Pop since LV is one of the few markets where mainstream doesn't exist. Then again KLUC is practically on the border of rhythmic and mainstream with all the pop product they have been playing in recent months. It will be fun to see what happens.

Clear Channel spent a fortune and still failed with Kiss. Why would anyone do any better? Anything is possible....but still.

There really aren't too many other format holes available right now besides CHR. Although with a name like "Party" they very well could end up going in a rhythmc direction.

What about 101.1? Is it ready to launch? Of course this could be an April Fools Day stunt.

It could be an April Fools Day stunt, but, it begins April 3rd at 7am on 98.5.

kluc.com is now

party985.com.

Always a better jam, The Party @ 98.5 FM.

I think the AllAccess post referred to folks leaving KLUC, but not on their own volition, unfortunately.

I think that pretty much answers our questions. LUC will be taking a decidedly more Rhythmic approach with a positioner like, "Always a better jam". Expect to see the mainstream stuff go away for good. Wonder how Chet will fit in with that? The Party @ 98.5... it should get interesting.

I've worked on stations that called their songs jams that played mainstream. But you're probably right. They just hired that girl on the AM show; I expect her to stay. I'd be surprised if the morning show changed, actually. I'd actually be kind of surprised if anybody left at this point.

We'll find out, though....

I haven't heard any pop on 98.5 today. IMO, if they play a song like "Wake me up" by Green Day after a "Always a better Jam" sweeper, the whole re-branding to PARTY will have minimal impact.

But can the 101.1 signal really exist since KPLD in Kanab,UT is on the air?

Wonder if this is a sign of things???

Could this be where the "Party" is headed next???

Update: They are still playing pop, I heard "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield, "This Love" by Maroon 5 and both "Because of You" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes" by Kelly Clarkson.

We'll find out tomarrow what kind of changes they made. My guess is the same jock lineup and same exact music they have been playing, but a complete image overhaul from "#1 hit music station" (which they have been using for 20 years!) to PARTY.

I seem to remember around 2 years ago when KLUC was calling themselves "The Party Station", now they are going all the way with the idea.

So, first CBS changed KLUC to the "all new" KLUC, then lite to jack, then relaunched X107.5 as extreme ROCK radio, now KLUC to Party @ 98.5, what's in store for mix? anything? or are they content with their current format?

The second. And kudos to them for buying www.party985.com to complete the scam. Excellent job. I feel totally stupid for buying into it.

I was a bit suspicious about it when I realized the "98.5" on the "Party page" was the same as their regular logo.

They're definitely tweaking that HD2 "Star Party" format, too.

That was one of the better April Fools jokes, I can't think of too many others that have extended over a few days. I basically fell for it, although one sweeper they ran over the weekend kept me semi- skeptical. It was the one that said something like "Listen Monday morning at 7, since you live the party lifestyle we know you'll be coming home from the clubs at that time". I didn't think KLUC would limit their target to such a small niche of hardcore "party lifestyle" listeners.
