Allan Loudell on The Radio Racket

He and his stations have been major subjects on the radio message boards for years, and this week he's going to join us, live, in-studio on the Racket!

Both George and I worked for Allan during our time at WILM Newsradio in Wilmington, so there should be some very interesting conversation about the good old days and what later prompted his departure from the station to go to crosstown rival WDEL, where he currently takes care of the Noon-time and afternoon drive newscasts.

Beyond all of his work at WILM and WDEL, Allan is a true "radio geek" at heart, so he and George should have plenty of other things to talk about as well!

Many thought it would never happen, but this week it will! It's one of our most anticipated shows ever, and Friday will be here before you know it.

We hope to hear from some of you on the phone with your questions, and you can always feel free to e-mail any and all questions to us via our website.

I thought you guys (especially George) couldn't stand Loudell? Wasn't that one of the reasons why you two departed WILM?

If there was any ill will between you three, I'm happy to see that you can put your differences aside for a short time, and have a professional and mature discussion about RADIO (and not George's State of the Message Boards, where he tries to figure out who is posting under what names and other such silly nonsense).

Please leave Roscoe out of this interview with Loudell. He will bring nothing important to the table. Personally, I would prefer to hear George, Kyle, and Loudell only.

Let the rebuttals/personal attacks begin.

Well Sh...I mean Biscuits, Allan was far from the reason either of us left the station. Neither of us could afford to work there any longer. Personally, I was driving 100 miles round-trip everyday.

In my eyes, Allan was part of the reason to stay. He's a quirky guy that I enjoyed working for. Whether he knew it or not, he provided us with endless hours of entertainment and was always a good sport when we would joke around with him. WILM was a great station to cut your teeth at in this business. Both of us left on good terms, in fact, I continued to do some part-time fill-in for a bit after leaving.

As for your programming advice, I don't think it's necessary. Roscoe is a good enough broadcaster to know when to sit back during an interview. I would do the same if we were going to be interviewing someone from the Providence market, which I know nothing about.

I don't think George has ever delivered a "State of the Message Board's" Address. Of course we talk about them. Last week's chat was very relevant after what occurred. Most of the folks that listen to the show, including yourself obviously, also take part in these forums. That makes it a topic we sometimes need to delve into. Please don't make things up though. We've never sat and tried to figure out who's posting under what name. We have other things in our lives that are much more pressing. Heck, if some folks would learn how to behave themselves on message boards, they wouldn't have to keep creating new handles after getting banned time and time again.

Thanks for listening!

Allan is also a DX / SWL enthusiast and joins us most years at the Winter SWL Fest up in Kulpsville. He'll be speaking this year at our Saturday luncheon, filling us in on his WILM - to - WDEL move.

I'm sure this will be a part of our conversation Richard. George is also into DX'ing & SWL.
