Allan Sniffen is cracking up

I don't doubt that there's another Mike Piazza, it's not the rarest of names. I do think that the doctor's "no handles" rule which not everyone follows is pretty stupid though. How the heck would he know if I'm using my actual name or not? I could make up any first and last name, how would he know it's actually me? Especially with the 1990's-era message board technology he's using with none of the features that a modern php-based board would have.

His senseless reminders to everyone "NO HANDLES", yet he lets someone post under the name Mike Piazza. Yeah sure!
Mike Piazza is a an actual radio personality. I think I recall hearing him on WLIB/Air America Radio doing news, and I know he has done oldies shows in the South Jersey/Philly area.
I did not know that. But the rest of my post is true.

He seems like a nice enough guy but it seems that in recent times he's more into making some kind of name for himself or getting some sort of recognition out of what he does. He worries too much about stuff that might upset his "radio buddies". I have had my run-ins with Sniffen. I'll spare the details but it DID involve illogical post censoring, and the way it was handled definitely made me into an anti-dentite.

Anti-Dentite? Cute. I like it!

However, I think you said it ebst, what i was trying to say several pages ago. he's definately looking to make a name and get recognition for himself.

I wonder if he brags to his patients?

Paul, "anti-dentite" is from Seinfeld. You must have missed that episode. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Yadayadayada.

I have said that Allen is wrong many times, but of late, I feel his is 100% on witht he NYC radio waves. He called the O & A move to 92.3 Free Fm weeks before. I also agree with him that "The Doghouse" will be big with 92.3 free fm. He (Dr. Sniffen) has them in the afternoon drive. Well we will see.

That may be so, but Allan's brand of filtering messages that don't jive with his own agenda just doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the online discussions. I would think he should be the first one to be able to offer a counter opinion on his own board, but to just delete and edit posts without any specified reason seems to be more of a dictatorship instead of an open forum.

I agree.

The best thing the new operators of this site did was to keep moderators out of participating in discussions. It is almost humanly impossible to be both player and umpire.

I Allan wants to offer his own opinions, he has his podcast and he can set up a blog. If he wants to run a forum for other people to discuss radio, he needs to stay out of the fray. Given his strong opinions on different topics, he is probably not the best choice to moderate such a forum.

Something has happened with him in recent months. Not necessarily "cracking up" but he has - at the very least - gotten more impatient with those who have different opinions, or who bring up topics he's not interested in.

There's something about dentists. They seem to love to get your mouth full of their stuff, so you can't talk while they chatter away.

I would venture to say it would be fine for Allan to voice his own opinions on his board, but he must also accept the fact he will also get contrasting views and opinions to the statements he makes ... and he should be man enough to let those views stand instead of cowardly editing or deleting them.

Imagine if everybody started posting something on his board along the lines of "MusicRadio is dead on 770AM - why keep this board operating" - you know he'd go through about ten keyboards as they would all have the delete keys busted on them by the time he was through

Personally, I'm glad mine didn't go through the "Close Cover Before Striking School of Dentistry"

If his is "the Mecca of all Internet radio message boards," this is the Big Apple.

Back when the management of this board changed hands and the former management started a new board, Allan commented specifically on the two boards, to suggest strongly he does lurk here. I can see him hitting his delete button in almost a reflex action as he reads this thread. Unfortunately, his delete button doesn't work here. Now, he's pounding all the keys and screaming, "Be gone! Be gone! Out, out damned post." And he still can't make this thread disappear. His first patient is in the waiting room, so Allan takes a few hits of nitrous oxide to calm down. ;D

Very well stated (and entertaining, too), but I have a question for you or anybody else who can answer it. What makes his board the "Mecca" of all message boards? Is it just a self proclaimed title used to puff up one's ego or what?

Thanks.

Yes, that would be my guess.

All Muslims are supposed to make a pilgrimage to Mecca during their lives. Maybe Allan's board is very popular along Atlantic Avenue.

Perhaps more like "corner Ocean Avenue and Avenue U in Brooklyn - free housebreaking wee-wee pads with every post uh, purchase" (remember that famous TV quote?)

Of course, Allan on his podcast comes off more like the Crazy Eddie commercials....

Crazy Allan....
His message board is INSANE. ;D

That's it!!!! I never connected the on-air stylings of former WPIX-FM jock and Crazy Eddie pitchman Dr. Jerry Carroll and everybody's favorite dentist before, but I think you've made another bull's eye. I wonder what kind of doctor Jerry Carroll is/was/could have been? :p

Come on Tony. Your entire opinion is based on what he says about the Doghouse. You do host one site on their message board, correct? Just because he said they are a better fit in afternoon drive than mid-days does not mean he thinks they are going to be big.

Also, no one says that the Dr does not get inside info like stuff on O&A. He does have connections.
