Allan Sniffen is cracking up

Dr. Sniffen extracted another one of my posts. There was nothing wrong with what I asked.

I started a new job this week and one of my co-workers was someone who was a coworker at one of my previous jobs. This co-worker grew up outside of Boston and listened to Opie & Anthony on WAAF. So I posted this message on Dr. Sniffen's board:

"A co-worker of mine is a longtime Opie & Anthony fan dating back to their days on WAAF. He knew of their firing in 2002 for the St. Patrick's Cathedral thing, but didn't know they were back on Terrestail Radio. I'm looking for a website that tells me what stations carry O&A besides 104.7 New London, 99.7 Providence, 104.1 Boston, and 92.3 NYC."

In my eyes Nothing is wrong with that post.

Sniffen is just a radio wanna-be who would never make it in this business and feels all high and mighty running some measley little internet radio message board,.

GET A LIFE SNIFFEN!! (No one likes you!!)

Actually, in my view, why would your friend want to know which stations outside of the area are running Opie & Anthony? Did you mention in the post that he planned on traveling and wanted to find out what stations might carry it in the area he's going to? Perhaps if you mentioned that angle, the post might have stayed up. Sometimes white lies don't hurt.

I had a similar experience, which soured me on the board. A friend, a retired veteran of over 40 years in radio, on his way in from Princeton to the City noticed a Latin Pirate on an 8 mile length of the Garden State... and asked me about it. I posted to see if anyone else knew anything about the station, which was rather distinctive in programming. The post was deleted.

I have not a clue why it was deleted, as it was very relevant to NY radio and the question came from a person who has an incredible reputation in the industry. I know he will never visit the board again, unless he has a toothache.

TOTALLY, who was that pin head who was going back and forth with me about Sniffen here, and posted some blurb about Sniffen and how influential he is,a seasoned veteran, he was host of the "highly successful' saturday night request show on wspk in the 1980's. Yeah a failed part timer from 26 years ago,..............OH YEAH SNIFFEN IS THE MAN!

::)

I wonder if it was SNiffen himself?

He thinks he's all high n mighty cus eof his message board and cuse he gets to be on 77WABC once a year.

I wonder if the people at WABC are as annoyed with him as some of us!

I think if Alan Sniffen deletes a post, out of courtesy, he should e-mail the person to tell him why. He is very inconsistent. There are often threads about pirate radio. Sometimes he deletes pirate radio posts sayiing that if they are on his board, it encourages people to listen. I have also seen non New York radio posts on his board. He often uses non relevancy to NYC radio as an excuse to delete posts. His board is an asset to people in the radio business and to hobbyists. I ask that he be courteous when he has to delete a posting and consistent in his posting guidelines.

If his board is about New York radio, then please explain why this thread has been up for over two hours:

It looks like this Clear Channel "stuff" is starting to "hit the fan"--a friend of mine came in to find one of his shifts "filled" (by someone ELSE)--his response? He didn't know he DIED!!

Could be; I've seen posts on his board by ladies on a first-name basis with no email (hey, doesn't that violate his terms?!?) which so vacuously defend his vacuous ideas of what NY radio ought to be, that...well, aside from the obvious, put it this way. If that's his fantasy of/taste in women, ladies, walk away. Slowly. No, on second thought, run...

Actually, I'd disagree about his board not being taken seriously in "the industry"; but that says more about the tinpot bush-leagueness said "industry" (or segment thereof) has sunk to among the media, trying to flatter its own party line, trying to deny the daunting scale of the crossroads, trying to avoid being highlighted unflatteringly (cf. John Mainelli's post-Post-firing "Hey, putz" crackup on Jeff Jarvis's BuzzMachine blog).

And in that context, Sniffen stands virtually alone. It's like a pre-perestroika Soviet gerontocracy clinging to whatever undiscriminating party-line cheerleader it can.

Apparently, someone has mistaken this thread for the "Doghouse" thread...
