Allan Stagg.

I was a collegue of Allan's at ABC Radio, where I worked at WLS as a fill-in talk host and he was at the now gone but not forgotten, WXCD-FM ,and at Columbia College Chicago, when we were radio instructors. When I would run into him at either gig, I was always interested on his take on current events. He was always "out of the box" thinking which I thought was so cool. Allan is an original and I admire his talents so much. I wish I was half as good as he is. Very approachable and very kind. When we would talk, I was always honored to be in his presence because you always learned something and walked away with a different point of view that can only be Allan's! I miss "Sanctuary" and the great theater of the mind that he does so well. But most of all, I miss my talks with Allan. He's the best!

There are a number of stations he would fit in Chicago but as I put up last week he was "filling in" at WLAV in Grand Rapids where Kevin Matthews is now located. The Loop would seem a natural fit. So would XRT. Even ZZN and CKG would certainly get a boost from his dedicated following. What gives?

I think your right. Some of those stations would benefit from
his following. But the radio industry is so jaded, I don't know
if Allan's style of broadcasting is still respected. I agree, The Loop
or WXRT would be the best places for his return.

The Loop makes the most sense.

Not to be cruel but half the Loop staff sounds like it was not even around or on the playground when album rock radio was on the scene. They would fit on Q101 a lot better. It is almost as bad as putting alternative deejays on an oldies station instead of Dick Biondi.

Who makes the decisions over there? Does the program director know Chicago or did he apply a classic rock formula determined by some out of town consultant and add air people as an afterthought based on who would cost the least?

Aside from Allan Stagg there are other established Chicago names to consider too. Patti Haze is somewhere in Florida. Mitch Michaels is or was on a suburban stick. Does that make any sense?

One way WGN relates to its audience is with its air people and it is always on top. You would think that would be a clue to success.

XRT would never happen--I think they would consider "Sanctuary" too gimmicky and below them (and too "classic rock" for a station that wants people to believe that they still have an interest in new music). They only like to mess with your mind on April Fools Day over at Belmont and Cicero.
