Was he a part of the Allen & Allen? I really enjoyed them.

Yes. That is correct. I never met Allen Dennis, but he was part of the family like radio kind of was when I was growing up. I know he had a great voice and seem to recall a hysterical laugh as one of his background characters.

Thanks for passing along the word.

Allen ever tell you about his first full-time air stint? It was at WRIP, a little station in Rossville, GA, just across the state line from Chattanooga. The owner was Col. Jay Sadow, a real character of a radio owner I can verify was cut from the same mold as our own William Barry or Bud Walters. The Colonel had hired a new announcer with the moniker Sterling Bright, but the guy backed out, leaving the Colonel with announcements, business cards, and ads he'd already paid for featuring the new guy's name. When the Colonel later agreed to hire Dennis, it was with the stipulation that he in turn agreed... you guessed it... to go on the air as Sterling Bright. (And people today think cheap came in with corporate ownership!)

Sigh... another good one gone too soon...
