Allen ox gone, who replaces him?

Bob and Tom perhaps? That would be stupid though since DVE kinda does or use to use their bits as part of their morning show.
The only thing that makes me suspect this is because they will now be on in Cleveland on an alternative rocker.
Thoughts?

Surprising, but I think they go local, only because there's precious little to put on in the way of syndicated fare.

The X skews much younger than WMMS, which just picked up Bob & Tom, so I think they're probably less of an option than otherwise.

That should say Cox. Sorry. I tried to edit it, but this lovely board wouldn't let me.

I just read about it on his myspace page. That's pretty sad as I thought he was very funny to listen to and he wasn't a raunchy Stern clone like most of the others jocks on the alternative format.

DVE hasn't used Bob & Tom stuff since they went to 96.9. Whether the station still has rights to it since they went BOB I don't know. I agree w/ Johnny that the majority of the X audience wouldn't be into Bob & Tom.

Let me go off on a limb here:

How about playing music in the morning, with maybe some mild spattering of talk from a disc jockey?

Is that too novel a concept?

"Is that too novel a concept?"

Nothing is too novel a concept, providing it has been used in other markets for at least five years, and has been run through at least 14 separate focus group tests.

Remember, they have to test the music, then test the personality, then test the music and personality combined, then test the music with a different personality, then test the personality with different music, then test everything against multiple target demographics.

I think they should try to lure Oldiescat away from Detroit.

I agree with you that the X does go local. Who do you think on the X would be a good candidate for morning drive? I did like Alan Cox in the morning and his ratings were not that bad either.

I think if Boomer out of Dayton wanted to get out of there, this could be the gig for him.
Boomer is very well-liked here in Dayton and was voted the #1 morning personality.
And oh yeah, the station he works for?
"The X!"
just at 103.9, that's all.

Who was on this morning?

I listened to the X for about a half hour this morning and I only heard music. There was a rumor that WEAE sports announcer Tim Benz was taking over in the morning on the X in addition to his afternoon sports show that will be on Fox Sports 970AM. I find it hard to believe that Benz would be on the X.

A very reliable source confirms the Tim Benz rumor. Does that mean there will be a sports skew to the show? Does that mesh with the X's format?

In many ways Benz was Cox Light at WEAE- always whining about something local and usually rather insulting about it.

The move makes sense if you figure The X would build their station around Benz (who otherwise would be in Madden's shadow and not really a full-time host), would pay him less than Cox but still more than he was making from WEAE, and Benz will pick up an audience of sports fans Cox couldn't deliver.

Benz working two shifts though- from 6-9 or 10 a.m. and then preparing for a 3 to 5 sports show- that's gotta be tough.

My take, however, on this is that Benz has done an OUTSTANDING job as a sports anchor at Channel 4 on the weekends. He's direct, to the point, authorative on the air and clearly knows his stuff.

A Burton-Benz team at Channel 4 would go a long way in continuing their sports credibility that they have had, for the most part, since the days of Hillgrove, Cope, and Steigerwald and may be Benz' true calling.

the first show was on today, and i'm not sure if i'm just bitter that allen is gone or if he really suck, but he sounds like a jim rome wanna be with his [EDIT] talking one liners

[EDIT-profanity]

Benz has also turned down offers from other markets because he didn't want to move, so he's regarded as a talent.

Benz has kept his bag packed since he got here. He's obsessed with moving on to bigger and better, so you can be sure he hasn't been offered anything in a bigger market. He's auditioned unsuccessfully for TV gigs at Channels 4 and 11.

I'm surprised if Benz was turned down for an anchor position on 4.

When I saw him give the sports recently on one Sunday evening I came away thinking it was the best delivery I had seen in a sportscast in a very long time.
