Maybe I'm the last one who learned of the death of Allen Rice. A listener called me with the news yesterday afternoon.
Allen died in El Paso, Tx June 5th. It didn't make it on this site. Allen was a gifted, although conflicted soul who seemingly just drifted away. He worked at TVY with Roy Fox, Steve Crosby, John Thomas and me back in the early
90''s when our Arbitron numbers were outrageous. At one point back then, TVY was the highest rated station in the
entire state. Alllen always did middays and according to many, patterned his style after Bob Kingsley. You could hear
it on every break. He sometimes made the newspaper with less than positive results. What a sad story of the demise of one among us. His deamons are gone.

Not the last. Thanks for posting this Dave. Hadn't heard about it until now.
Sad.
I first met and worked with Allen in the early eighties at KMX.
He was known on the air as "Ricochet Rice". Lot of talent, lot of problems.
But don't we see that a lot in our business.
May he rest in peace

I used to hang with Allen when he was Chuck Fleming and doing overnights at WDIG. Crossed paths a few times after that. Nice guy, a real talent. Last time I saw him was a few years ago when he was a waiter at "Things and Wings". He told me he was thinking about getting out of radio. My thoughts are with his family. Goodbye Allen and thanks for playing that Steppenwolf song so long ago.

Wow, that is sad news. Fortunately, I don't remember any of the "other" stuff about Allen. I don't guess I ever met him to introduce myself, but I remember listening to him on WTVY when I was a kid. WTVY was my favorite station back then as I loved Country music. Listening to Allen, Roy, Steve, and Dave was what made me want to be in radio!

I thought he was a great talent and would love to hear that voice again.

I learned today that I spelled the late Mr. Rice's name wrong.

It should be Alan Rice.

RIP

I tracked down the funeral home in El Paso that handled his funeral arrangements back in June, but they couldn't release any info to me. He has a brother somewhere, but I don't know his name or where he lives. Alan was so awesome.
