Allen Spears obituary

In recent days, LA Radio People posted an obituary concerning Allen Spears.

Could someone post the story on Radio-Info? Many of his friends over the country just found out about his death by word of mouth.

Thanks so much.

I don't have the story your referring to, but my husband was a very close friend of Allen and his family. Here's the details. Allen was operating his own Nashville tour guide magazine in Nashville as he had been doing for a number of years. He only found out a short time ago that he had cancer of the liver and lungs. He didn't last long and even waited until his final days to notify family. He went to Mexico for alternative treatment where he passed away. Allen didn't want a funeral. He said he didn't want people crying over his casket and simply wanted to be remembered as he was. He was creamated in Mexico. Allen will be missed. For those of you who might not have known him, Allen was not only a great jock in his day working at what is now Westwood One back in the Transstar Network days and a great songwriter as well. That was he main reason for going to Nashville to try and get his music heard. He did a lot of songwriter showcases at the Bluebird in Nashville and did have one of his songs recorded on a album by Martina McBride and another by the Kentucky Headhunters. Although he never received the kind of recognition he derserved, he was a talented individual and a all around great guy. Allen was 65.

My name is Stephanie (Spears) Factor. I am Allen's fourth and youngest daughter. I was with my dad when he passed away in Mexico; just the two of us. I wrote his obituary but had left it up to his sister to publish it, which she may have never done. This has been a very difficult time; my head's not always where it ought to be.

It's wonderful to know that there are so many people who remember my dad with such good feelings.

Colleen, his wife, is having a Memorial Party for him sometime in January. The date hasn't been finalized yet.
If anyone is interested, has questions or would like to donate in his memory, feel free to e-mail me. [email protected]

Thanks for posting here Stephanie. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

I will mis the man. He changed my life with words of encouragement. Years later I still see him as the reason I perceveared. Today 20 years later I own several profitable production companies and have done very well for myself. For me it all started with a few words in a conversation where he took the time to mentor me.
He was a Gem and will be missed.
