Allen Weiner's 94.7 in Monticello apparently on

It's actually been on for a few weeks, it's only on it seems in the afternoon's only, with about 6kw, it was playing "RadioCarolone" Rock/internet program with no ID i heard, the other day I listened in and it was relaying WHOU from Houlton. Certainly their could be something to this station other that relying something else (aka, WREM 710 from WEGP).

Gotta love the Northern Maine radio dial
It's bad enough, all i don't want is another relay of something I already get!!

94.7 doesn't even have calls yet......i read somewhere that one of his stations was going to be part of the Channel X chain and one was going sports (didn't the AM drop Channel X a few months ago?)

I agree on the horrible northern maine radio dial, it's either MPBN, Channel X (kudos for the locally owned, but DAMN, wouldn't you make more if you focused on a format or maybe you could get creative and spin off one of the stations and give it its own format?) or Citadel.

Yeah, i read that somewhere 2, i was kind of suprised/excited in a way that Sports was to come to Northern Maine, but that has yet to come, right now the 94.7 is off the air, and yes, i don't see any call letters YET, but still it has been on.

780 had been relaying some religion program, it was hard to tell, the signal has been worse on 780 then it had been on 710 so they must be broadcasting from their CP (which called for a little less power to the north, aka where I am)

I really don't know if Channel X is going to be on 94.7, it USED to be on 780 for a few months about a year ago but that somehow dissolved, i don't know what happened, and idk if it will be back on 94.7 if at all. Speaking of Channel X, they seem to be having some technical problems, they seem to be playing this old soft jazz music from the 70's it looks like, their computer system must be wrong or something

Citadel, Citadel, Citadel, it's good for ppl who like Country, or somewhat 70's and 80's rock, with a few Nickelback songs mixed in, or an Alternative Hot AC, but for anyone who likes the Top-40, please! 96.1 would rather play an 80's song then something new, hec I don't see ANY of the Top40 songs mixed in to their rotation, it's just the Hot AC from this time.

And is it really nessisary to be putting out 95 kW off Mars Hill Mtn to at least 50% woods? Then again, it could be Ch. X and have little penetration outside of Caribou, even in PI it is hard to get them and it's like right there!

Bring in a Top-40 station and I will be happy. Likelyhood of that, probably 1 in 1000 chance. maybe?

When I was a kid, there was a top 40 station up there. Power 96 was what is now Hot AC Q96.1(WQHR). That 100KWer was ALL OVER THE PLACE. From Sherman Mills to Madawaska... Must not have been profitable, though. One morning in 1994 I woke up and found that Ugly Kid Joe's "Cats In The Cradle" had been replaced by the Harry Chapin version. The classic rock only lasted a year or so before they flipped to Hot AC.

o wow, believe it or not, i was watching an old family tape from 1994 and the radio was on and I could hear parts of "Power 96", it sounded similar to what you would hear today, except they were local in the morning. What I wouldn't do for them to change formats, but if they did that they would probably have to reduce their signal. Usually Top-40 stations don't have that much power, Hot AC is another thing

And from Sherman Mills to Madawaska? It really depends where you are, on the Interstate I get them forever, especially in the car, to Millinocket at least, but with a battery radio I could barely get them in Sinclair. It's not like they care up there, half are French!

94.7 FM has been leased by WHOU FM .. they are planning on a classic country format with UMaine sports .. yay on the sports .. classic country? not so much

ugh!!!!!!!!!!!! x50, no way, ok, im about this close to moving, what the hec, classic country? Honestly, what is wrong with Top-40, we have a country station already up here why do we need 2? At least it will have UMaine Sports..... at least but still,

One more question, with a different format, not many ppl will be able to listen to it with only 6kw, what is the coverage going to be?

Thanks JWStorm for finding this out, i wonder how you found out?!

A follow up, i have been listening to 94.7, it's usually only on the air during weekday afternoons with NO Station ID at all and playing classic country, seems like it's coming from a casette tape, it gets choppy sometimes, i only heard 1 ad or 2 during a whole hour's time, other than, just taped music. I wonder why they are even playing it if they don't have calls or the proper studio? Nevertheless, I was very bored listening to classic country from the 70's and 80's ugh

Just was listening today and it seems they have ID's now-
"Classic Country 94.7"
and the calls are WBCQ, but the FCC Database has nothing for WBCQ, in fact, WBCQ is the shortwave station on the same property!
There was also a female jock on introducing a few songs, dk if that was voice tracked or not but definetly things are "fishy" with this new 94.7

And they still sound like there coming from a cassette tape! :D

Well, if Mr. Weiner intends on attaching the "WBCQ-FM" calls to the facility, they don't show up in the FCC database yet:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=170487

Of course, this wouldn't be the first time the database hasn't tracked with reality.

The above notes that Allan got his CP for 94.7 nearly a year ago. I don't know why the thing isn't showing with calls now.

I'm wondering if the classic country format being reported here is a similar satellite/syndicated format running now down here on WGRP/940 Greenville PA, with a woman doing early afternoons. I haven't been able to track down what WGRP is running outside of a local host borrowed from a sister station...and I don't know the classic country satellite formats as well as others...

OK, a quick search in the FCC database shows Mr. Weiner did indeed apply for WBCQ-FM on Friday (!).

A request for WBCQ-FM dated 08/15/2008 has been filed
by WEINER, ALLAN H.

The Call Sign Query does indeed show the calls held by his shortwave outlet, listed service "IN" (International, I presume) and all the other information blank!

hmmm, about that sat. from a station in Penn, i will have to look that up, I really don't think there's really anyone working there at the station Saturday night! The quality of music sounds really bad, like from a casette tape, with the sat. voice tracks mixed in, he's already got the top ID saying "Classic Country 94.7 WBCQ Monticello, Houlton"

Does WSYY 94.9 make it into Monticello?Check out this radio-locator map, which is for entertainment only, but it must be close.http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WSYY&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

You'd think with all the frequencies available they wouldn't have used 94.7 which is so close to WSYY 94.9.Check out this link for available frequencies in Monticello ,which is almost all of them.
http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/vacant?select=city&city=Monticello&state=me&x=16&y=8

Also format doesn't matter as far as the power a station has.A station wouldn't have to cut it's power to become Top 40.

Also refering to the WRED post ,they carry the weekend Top 30 with Hollywood Hamilton also.

o thanks for the info about WRED, i got to listen to that station!

WSYY is having some problems anyway, I used to get them all the time with a really good radio in Caribou, but i haven't gotten them good for a year! The Coverage Map there on the Radio-Locator site isn't accuarte, their tower is at a different place

Ha, Monticello getting a Top-40 station, makes the most sense with the Classic Country. yes, the should have put the station at a different place, now the Monticello area has no way of getting WSYY with the bleed-over, ugh! Houlton might have a fighting chance, but slim.

My opinion: WBCQ should have been B 92, a hot Top-40 station :D, about 10 kw on a hill west of Monticello.
Instead: WBCQ Classic Country 94.7, a oldies country station :(, 6 kW near the Britton Road in Monticello

sometimes you have to dream a litttle.....
