allthehitsq99.com and q99atlanta.com registered

They were registered on Wednesday (privately - I am assuming not to tip anyone's hand).

Safe to say that Q100 will be called Q99 after the move.

Edit note: TheMusicMan I was writing this as your were posting, I've got Q99-7 covered. ;D

Q99. It just doesn't have the same ring to it for me. Could you imagine Z100 New York becoming Z99? Then again, I can't imagine 99x being called "100x" either, so I guess it's just what your used to hearing.

All The Hits Power 99? Power Hits Q99? 99Q? Q99.7? 99.7 "The Q"? Q: The Big Ninety Ninety Seven? Channel 997? 99.7 "The Power Cow"? Q100 minus 1? CumulusJobs.com Q99?

Q99: Now with a bigger, more powerful, clearer signal. (oh wait haven't we been there before?).

Strike that.

Jingles. Does Cumulus order resings of the ReelWorld Z100 05 NRG jingle package that they've been using, get a brand new jingle package, or ditch jingles all together? (Remember Q100 didn't have jingles at all 2001-06). My vote is they'll launch on 99.7 with a new jingle package. Maybe freshened imaging too.

Power 99 had jingles that went, "99.7....Power 99!" And nobody had trouble finding them all those years, even after they went by "Power 99-7" and then "Power 99 point 7" before settling on Power 99 around 1987 or so. So "99.7...Q100" jingles would work just fine.

Personally, I like the sound of 99Q better. (But then I grew up on 94Q, so what do I know?) I am sure the idea is to make the branding as much the same as it is now, within reason.

I wonder how long 99.7 and 100.5 will be simulcasting after January 25.

I totally agree with The Music Man on this one. Besides radios now have digital displays. 99-7 would make more sense.

allthehitsq997.com was registered on Wednesday as well. So The Music Man and Roddy you might be right.

However allthehitsq997atlanta.com is available.

q997atlanta.com was also registered. Good change it could be Q99.7 with the other other domain names all redirects to the same site.

With them being so close to 100 on the dial, there really is nor reason for them to change the Q100 thing. Many years ago in NY, WXLO was at 98.7, yet called themselves 99X.

No need to change.

Call me old-skool but, to hear CHR/Top40 music back on the 99.7 frequency, doesn't it make more sense to JUST CALL IT "POWER 99"? Wouldn't that be like bringing back a true Atlanta legend?

Not sure why that had to be in bold.

Calling it "Power 99" would be a terrifically bad idea. A substantial piece of Q100's listener base wasn't in Atlanta between 1986 and 1992, and the name would have no recognition with them. Plus, any recognition it has wouldn't be useful - there is zero connection between what Power 99 did then and what Q100 is doing now. Q100 is the brand they know. By continuing with the Q brand, it's the move of an existing station rather than the creation of a brand new one.

Having said that, using Q100 at 99.7 would also be terrifically bad idea. Yes, in a theoretical sense, there's nothing against calling a station Q100 at 99.7. (99.7 at one point had Lite 100 and Warm 100.) But, in this case, it would cause MASSIVE confusion.

For starters, 100 at 99.7 is a holdover from the pre-digital-tuning radio days. Even Z93 became 92.9 Dave FM. Most people don't know the history, and can't understand why a station that's on their dial at a 99 position has a 100 name. (I can't tell you how many times I would get into a car and find that the owner had set their Peach 95 setting for 95.1 instead of 94.9, despite the distortion.)

But, in this case, the more critical element is Q pointing out their new location. If they keep Q100, people will continue to look for it at 100.5. They need something to tell listeners where to find them.

I fully expect them to use Q99.7, at least for the first few months.

/just my opinion, could be wrong

Power 99 hasn't existed in over 15 years, and when your target demo is 18-34 females the brand means nothing. Plus Q100 has existed longer (nearly eight years) with a very consistent mainstream CHR product, wheres Power 99 existed only six years, and the Power 99 we remember was only after some tweaking.

But the fact that Power even comes up is testament to what a great station it was. But 99x in the 90s was every bit if not even more important to New Rock as Power 99 was to CHR, and you see today how much the 99x brand is worth today.

You're dead-on.

I'll add one more wrinkle: You have to call the new 100.5 something, and calling it and 99.7 "something 100" or "100 something" would cause people to confuse the two stations.

So they must be kept separate. I'll wager that there will be quick, more frequent shotguns between songs that will say "Q100 is now Q99.7" or "99.7...Q99" at least while the simulcast is in place, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if, on the new 100.5, you hear a quickie, "Looking for Q100? Tune to 99.7 for All the Hits, Q99."

Here's another interest of mine: When said simulcast starts, will the WNNX and WWWQ letters move January 25 so the legal states, "WWWQ Atlanta, WNNX College Park," or just the opposite?

Another fact worth bearing in mind is that if WWWQ kept the Q100 branding at 99.7, they'd have two stations with "100" in their moniker (assuming that whatever new station birthed at 100.5 doesn't round up to 101, which would just be ridiculous IMO). Maybe that's not hugely important, but could that cause confusion?

I wonder what they'll do with the logo provided that they Q becomes "Q99-7" or some variation of that. I think the current logo is fine; I just hope that any potential new designs aren't cheap-looking.

This post made me realize how weird it's going to be not to hear "College Park" following "WWWQ" in Q100's (er, Q99(-7)'s legal ID - it's going to take me a while to get used to this) legal ID!
