I notice that since CC decided to sell off (Aloha Trust) stations in the Keys the big rating service has pulled the keys from the list (I thing think the Keys were rated somewhere near #297?)

IIRC, Fall 2007 was the last book for market 294, with 69,000 12+ population.

Arbitron will not do a book if there is not enough support to cover costs. If the principal or only subscriber dropped out, then there would be no survey.

Four stations licensed to Key West or Summerland Key are currently having *severe* issues with the transmitter (I think on Sugarloaf Key), and have had this problem for about 1 year now! 3 of them are supposed to run 100,000 watts.....so I suppose it is just as well.....

I'd be curious as to know if/when they will get their coverage back.

No idea.....all I know is that outside of their COL's, they cannot be heard; as if they are all on "aux". One of them is WAIL 99.5.....last year during tremendous Tropo to the north, I was able to bag a rock station "The X" on 99.5 outta North Carolina from Veterans Park (mile marker 39.8 US 1).

I have not heard any of the 4 from my home in Broward since....even with a nice outdoor FM antenna. Shouldn't be the case.

Tower was destroyed during tropical storm. (according to FCC STA letter) WPIK, WEOW 107.9 & WAIL (?) share this tower. It is 611ft in the middle of a landfill. There were a lot of power issues at the site. Many mornings I would drive out there to reset the PIK transmitter. If the smell didn't get you, the gators might. Plus it was a 5 mile drive from the studios plus a mile and a half drive down the landfill road.

Never knew what caused it....Gators in the Keys? Wow

Right!

@musiconradio: Were you involved w/ WPIK at the time they were running Radio Marti? (To the others, I'm serious here!) I was wondering if there was ever any jamming issues; also, how did that programming come about, if you know? This was about 4-5 years ago.

And don't forget the Gators that play football in Gainesville. ;)

To which I have to respond,

GO NOLES!

David, formerly with WTNT Tallahassee, "The Voice of the Seminoles."

I was out of PIK in 95'. It was sold to individual base out of South Carolina. I didn't realize Radio Marti was on the station.

A note: We were probably the first station in South Florida (Possibly in Florida) to use a HD playback system. Commercials that is. Live during 6A-7P. We ran satellite 7P-6A & Weekends. I wasn't a Satellite fan. It was the most cost effective option, at the time. This state of the art playback system (at the time) recorded & played back 40 minutes of full stereo audio :p. How the times have changed.

The NOLES have a great team, and I support them when they are not playing against the Gators; However, I would not do my alma mater justice if I did not respond with GO GATORS!!!

WRUF-FM Gainesville, Florida. ;D

Are there any stations in Miami or the Keys that carry Gator football games?

With the season over, I did not follow....but in the Miami area, it could be any of these: WAXY 790, WFTL 850, WINZ 940.....WQAM 560 has U Miami, so I doubt they'd carry other NCAA teams.

In the Keys, the only eligibles would be WFFG 1300/WKYZ 101.7 Marathon area, & WKWF 1600. I'd be surprised if any others carried any sports.

You already said that verbatim using my same previous quote :) lol

GO GATORS!!!

WRUF-FM Gainesville, Florida, the flagship station of the Gator Nation Radio Network (Although I was never the voice of the Gators). I detect a possible rivalry underway.

FWIW, I enjoy listening to Gene Deckerhoff (sp?) for the Noles Netowrk....he has a football play-by-play voice. I think that the Gators guy sounds a lot like him....I might be mistaken tho'.

I know that Deckerhoff is the voice of the Buccaneers as well.

In my opinion both teams have great announcers, coaches and players. They are both Florida teams, and, as previously stated, I support the Noles unless they are playing the Gators...Then I root for my home team... The Hurricanes also have a very good team as well. Out of curiousity, I'm wondering if any station(s) carry all three teams?

David, I feel embarrassed. I misread your message as it appeared you had made the same comment twice; Hence my last post in reference to the Noles / Gators. After a second review, I see you only commented once and not twice as I had first thought.

GO NOLES!!! and GO GATORS!!!

I know I'm going wayyy OT, but I'll say that Joe Zagacki, the voice of the Hurricanes, is a truly blessed man. He was the only survivor of a 1992 plane crash (3 on board), which carried supplies for Hurricane Andrew victims.

As I recall, the plane was quite overloaded with merchandise.

CD, you mentioned that WAIL is one of the stations that is having transmitter issues. I assume that it is still being simulcast with WFKZ? About a month ago, I was driving along the Tamiami Trail in West Miami, and I picked up WFKZ, and I am almost positive that the top-of-the-hour ID also mentioned WAIL/Key West.

How long have the affected stations been operating at reduced power? And what seems to be the hold-up in erecting a new replacement tower? Zoning? FAA? Environmental concerns? Other?
