Alphabetical Order for Format Boards

Does that mean AC should go with the A’s? Then what do they do about Hot AC and Rhythmic AC? And then the numbered formats. Numbers are to be listed as if the number is spelled. So the 50's would go with the F’s. 60’s and 70’s with the S’s. 80’s with the E’s.

(Frankly, it’s fine the way it has always been. :D)

Not to say it should but I'd say it would be okay to have a "main" category "AC" with subcategories "AC, Rhythmic," "AC, Hot," etc. Then one almost blank board in the "R" section titled, say, "Rhythm..." with cross references like "See (rhythm &) Blues", "See "AC, Rhythmic."

In an earlier lifetime I was helping to organize a station's music library. I put a white label on the upper left corner of each record jacket (this was the LP era) to alphabetize by last name. Included were a few dummy (empty) jackets with cross references, like,
Supremes, see also Diana Ross
Ross, Diana, see also Supremes
I had the initial letter a little larger for quick identificaiton and sorting

I doubt this will ever happen, it sounds very confusing.

At the collegiate radio station I work at, there is a large music library. Things are categorized by genre and in the catalog listings, there are cross-references like your Supremes/Diana Ross example. In fact, at the top of the listings, before listings of albums and singles by an artist, there is a cross reference to other bands he or she were in. For example, Fogerty, John also lists: "Also hear him in Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR). We also have special spelling references. For example, Khan, Chaka also has a listing at Kahn, Chaka that says, "** Go to KHAN, Chaka, as this is how her last name is actually spelled.

Also of note, the station uses an alpha-numeric system. Therefore, in the ELEC (for mainstream Electric Rock) library, there are artists at M-2 ELEC, M-3 ELEC. and so forth.
