Alt 92.3 Music Changes

The morning team, Cane and Corey, is reportedly out at Alt 92.3. I didn't hear it but the afternoon host, Brady, apparently talked about it off the top of his show, saying they've been fired. There's a post about it on the dentist forum.

Update - Radioinsight has now published a detailed story on it. It seems Cane has offered up a series of reasons why they were let go, but buried among them is the fact the team had no intention of getting vaccinated. Audacy is implementing a vaccine mandate, probably in order to comply with new rules set down by New York state, and the forthcoming city-wide vaccine mandate without exceptions set to take effect Dec 27 in NYC.

Interesting that they mention that Alt has been threatened with a format change for the past six months. This format has been losing virtually the entire time it’s been around. Would anyone like to guess when 92.3 WINS?

I mean 92.3 Amp and 92.3 Now wasn't much better. I like Alternative and I do like news believe it or not. 1010 WINS is great but not for FM. Although what other option could they do? A name change? FM 92.3 or Radio 92.3? They need music in the morning.

Their morning show sucked. I met Cane once he was nice but I hate to say it their morning show wasn't good. They made a joke the other day on air that was cringeworthy. At least they didn't hire Leslie Fram, she ruined WRXP 1.0.

This, concerning Cane and Corey, from the RadioInsight article:
In a podcast released today, they state that they were let go for uploading a podcast including the duo and producer Jai to Apple and Spotify last night as a breach of contract. The show had been previously suspended for two weeks for airing a curse word on the show and lying to management to cover it up. Cane stated that they were off this week as well because Audacy is implementing a vaccine mandate and none of them intended to get vaccinated.

It seems they wanted to be let out of their contract. The article also says they alleged that their pay was not increased when they were broadcast on additional markets.

I about vomited when I saw Leslie Fram's name mentioned. Thanks a lot, Bizzle! LOL

Suffice it to say, I completely agree with your opinion of her programming abilities.

Good no one is missing their horrible show that much. Said the 4 listeners of the show. I prefer Elvis Duran anyway.

She’s a legend in this business. Look at 99X in Atlanta during the 90s...it flourished under her watch. High ratings, artists flocked to Atlanta, the concerts and promotions...she made that station a powerhouse. 2K rolled around, and just like any other alt station, they floundered. Not only did the music change...part of it was because Susquehanna/Cumulus tightened her freedom to really do what she was successful at the previous decade. Talk to other programming pros, and you would hear a way different opinion about Leslie than yours, Mark. (And don’t be afraid to blame corporate, consultants and change in audience...we all do to some degree on this site.)

(And if I owned an alt station, or country (as she’s been at CMT for some time), I would hire her immediately.)

Leslie didn’t ruin RXP. The market simply couldn’t handle a AAA.

I found the first version of RXP quite good to listen to with Matt Pinfield doing mornings. The playlist was also a bit wider when indeed Leslie Fram came to ruin things.

Leslie Fram was a disaster at 99X in the 00's. She and her gang of hand picked has-beens ran that station into the ground. It already had a foot in the grave when Cumulus acquired it.

Her resistance to get with the times arguably made 105.3 The Buzz / Project 9-6-1 look better than they actually were. By the way, when Chris Williams programmed 99X, ratings were outstanding. Leslie after his departure removed most of the heavier stuff, added limp post grunge and old school alternative cuts, and drove the ratings off a cliff.

There are plenty of alternative stations in the 90s that had good or even great ratings. 99X was a trend setter for sure. Its biggest contribution was Keith Eubanks.

The sordid tale of WNYL continues apiece. Gotta say that this story continues to evolve and get more interesting as time passes.

It seems unusual in this market, in recent years, for on-air personalities to be publicly so at odds with management.
The dismissal of Cane and Corey doesn't just affect WNYL. They were also broadcast on the Audacy Alt stations in Detroit and Miami.
Among other complaints they made on their podcast, the duo said that they thought the music on the station "wasn't right."

They were right about that. They were wrong about them being on mornings.

It’s not unusual for anyone who’s researched Mike The Show Killer (or “Show Killer Mike”) in any real detail. This happens wherever he goes without fail. The talent and he always clash and things fall apart.

It depends. Don Bongino recently had a very public standoff with his management over the vaccine as well. In my opinion, these people need to read their employee handbooks. Employers have a lot of liberties in how they treat employees. This is why some employees join unions. Earlier this year Mark Levin also had a dispute with Cumulus over certain policies. Plus there have been about a dozen or so other local on-air staffers either resign or get fired over vaccine mandates.
