Alt 92.3

“Hey, friend, you should listen to Alt 92.3. This DJ is talking about how bad the station’s ratings are. This is really good radio and it makes me never want to turn the channel”!

Said no one ever.
Actually, going back to the old Howard Stern / Opie & Anthony shock jock mentality, people like listening to that. Only thing is they like listening when it's a station going after a competitor, not really when they are apply self-deprecating humor.

It’s actually sort of sad. Luckily for the DJ, there are few listeners.

But that doesn't make it national. It's just more than local, which is what a lot of companies do.

They're not offering this show to stations owned by other companies. The Woody Show is carried by other companies.
Nights and Overnights originate from NY for every Audacy station. Even KROQ. Cost cutting move. Nothing more.

it isn’t doing well because the music isn’t interesting and for the most part the presentation isn’t interesting either.

It doesn’t sound particularly interested in programming for NY. The station could be in any blue state metropolitan area.

It has it’s moments and it isn’t “bad” but they can’t seem to put it all together.

It is stunning how much every single Audacy Alt station is deeply underperforming.

Because they run it on the cheap with no individual thought about the market and its individual needs. McDonald's doesn't work.

I do know for a fact very meaningful playlist differences exist between the Miami, Detroit and Los Angeles stations. The Miami station is the wimpiest sounding of the bunch by far.

Now, do some of the stations within the Audacy "Alt" stable run the same playlist in select dayparts? Probably.

The Cane and Corey morning show is rotten...had to get that remark out of my system. :)

Brady mentioned yet again just now that 92.3 was 2nd to last in the latest radio ratings.
Of course, that is not true. In the metro there are several dozen stations that are lower than that station is.

Among commercial FM stations in the city, only WEPN rates lower. Everything else below that are non-coms, AM and rimshot stations.
...but they are still radio stations and eligible for the ratings.

Oh, and the stations in suburban locations, such as Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island or in Westchester or Morris counties, are all "home" to the New York MSA in Nielsen. They are not "rimshots".

There are over 150 stations in the MSA. Over 100 are commercial. There are 20 counties and boroughs in that market area.

I was curious David why couldn't or didn't Audacy put Alt on 94.7 and the Block on 92.3? 94.7 is a suburban and rural signal which Alt would do better with and 92.3 is a NYC signal that will allow all of those in urban areas and suburban areas receive Classic Hip Hop where the format will thrive.

AllAccess reports that Audacy's Alt 103.7 (KVIL) in Dallas has dropped their morning and afternoon personalities, "as the station heads in a more music intensive direction."
Is such a move often a prelude to a format flip? Maybe another indication that the Alt format is not doing so well?
KVIL Dallas

I think this could be a significant sign that Alt's days are numbered, but....

If a change was imminent, wouldn't they just keep these syndicated shows until the actual spin of the big format wheel?

Why dismantle the station slowly in pieces?
