interesting in the article it says "Plus Cub baseball games Channel 5 Ames"

Also of note they didnt even launch until Fall 1975. The ad was to get people to sign up
 
Maybe WOI-5 was an affiliate of a far-flung regional network set up by Chicago's WGN-9 to carry that station's coverage of the Chicago Cubs to outlying areas of the Midwest.

But as a network affiliate, I suspect WOI would only carry a portion of WGN's Cubs TV schedule.
