Alternative loses another station

i checked their playlist once and a while on Yes.com, they were a meat and potatoes modern rocker - took no risks at all, playlist was very bland, they should have taken a more classic approach like their sister Radio 104.5 - and play music in the AM - might have worked.

RadioNation is 100% correct. They were bland at best. Radio 104.5 sounds great, and the ratings show it.

CC's Channel 92.3 in San Jose is sounding really amazing lately.

Agreed, JimmyJames, and it's bringing out the best in Live 105 too! First off, it's great to hear Rock (or some hybrid of it) back on 92.3 in San Jose, the longtime home of former powerhouse KSJO. Channel's move from 104.9 to 92.3 covers most of the Bay, instead of just Silicon Valley. I've heard some great Modern Rock tunes on Channel 92.3 over the last few weeks, but Live 105 has really stepped up as well. Their seamless mix of new tunes with older tunes I haven't heard in a while ("Let's Go to Bed" by The Cure or "Cuts You Up" by Peter Murphy) really keeps me tuned in.

I think this is the perfect example of how competition brings out the best in both stations. They both realize that tried and true is no longer the way to go, and they're not afraid to experiment a little bit. I enjoy listening to both of them now more than I have in years!

I'm experiencing that with my local alternative station here in Boston, 101.7 WFNX. For a few weeks after veteran rocker WBCN went off the air this past August, they tried playing the more heavier acts IMO that don't belong on alternative radio (Papa Roach, Seether, etc) and going against their usual Indie brand. The past few weeks they have completely tweeked their sound and playing more of the bands they have been known for (Flaming Lips, Strokes, Sonic Youth, etc.) Just now they played Regina Spektor "Fidelity" into Muse's new song "Uprising" into The Cure's "Lullaby". That's great alternative radio right there..glad to hear Live 105 and others are also following suit.

Say goodbye to Channel 92.3. Radio-Online reports that it has been sold to a guy who also owns a brokered multicultural station, and it sounds like KCNL will be history.

It was 104.9 that was sold, not 92.3. The KSJO calls remain at 92.3, which stays with Clear.
