Alternative/Modern Rock currents for Sept/Oct 2009

Here's a few of the newer ones making waves:

Owl City - Fireflies "Owl City" is actually the name for a 23 year old kid who likes 80's new wave and dance, who started making music in his parents basement because he couldn't sleep. Very Postal Service-ish. I like! Currently sitting at #30 and could rise even more. Bubbling under track...#3 on Heatseekers. Could be huge.

Alice In Chains - Check My Brain AIC are back...without Layne of course (R.I.P.). Honestly I wanted to write this off immediately as blasphemy. But this song is doing great at #2 and sounds similar to their older stuff, mainly because of Cantrell's song writing. Not a bad one at all. I actually like it.

Muse - Uprising Currently holding the #1 spot (no longer held by Linkin Park "New Divide", thankfully). Very impressed so far, hopefully the rest of the new album is as good as this one.

Paramore - Ignorance Not personally a fan of this band, probably more popular with the pop/punk crowd

Matt & Kim - Daylight Although getting most of it's airplay on more progressive alt stations (WBRU, WFNX, CD 101, WEQX, 965 the Buzz KRBZ, Radio 1045) this single from the Brooklyn Indie duo has potential. And it's catchy, and it was in that Bacardi commercial. = P

Jet - She's a Genius Not much to say about this one. I do like it, but I also like Jet. It sounds like Jet. So if you like Jet, you'll like it. = )

Weezer - (If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To Not surprised how big this one is already. Right now this one is sitting at #5. It WILL hit #1. I'd be surprised if it didn't. And I like it.

Cage The Elephant - Back Against The Wall The follow up to the smash hit "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked". A more laid back tune then it's predecessor. Not a bad tune, but doesn't really have the ability I think to make waves like ANRFTW did. Could break top 15. These guys are awesome live, by the way. Check them out if you get the chance..

AFI - Medicate Haven't heard this one yet...

White Rabbits - Percussion Gun A real Indie rock treat here. Getting moderate airplay on KROQ, CD 101, WFNX, WBRU, WEQX, KNRK, 1077 the End, KITS, FM 94/9, 965 the Buzz KTBZ. Aka lots of stations! Alternative stations, take more chances on bands like this! Getting more and more hits on youtube as well..

Owl City is a BIG surprise for me in the Alternative charts. Personally, I would have rather seen more stations pick up on All Time Low "Weightless". Everytime I heard "Fireflies", I think to myself, how is THIS ALTERNATIVE ROCK? Yes, people compare him to the Postal Service but at least they had a little more structure.
As far as the other singles, great line up of new Alternative tracks, but you left out
-The Bravery- Slow Poison
-Silversun Pickups- Substitution
-Death Cab For Cutie- Meet Me on the Equinox
