I would love to see WYSP go full time with Alternative. There's already enough Classic Rock out there that no one will miss it if they officially flip and play Alternative Rock 24/7. That way, we can also hear them in Ocean County (which is also sadly lacking a REAL alternative station). We do have a Hot AC that masquerades as Alternative, but that just won't cut it.</P>

Alternative to what? What is alternative?

We are in the midst of a full-blown renaissance of "alternative" rock, if only alt-rock radio can figure it out. Some of the bands that should be every alt-rock station's playlist right now: Kaiser Chiefs, Nine Black Alps, Billy Corgan, Bob Mould, Fall Out Boy, Sleater-Kinney, Frank Black, Maximo Park, Bloc Party, Dead 60s, All American Rejects, Oasis, Dressy Bessy, Youth Group, Razorlight, Teenage Fanclub.

Bands that need American record distribution RIGHT NOW: The Subways, Be Your Own Pet, Clor, The Brakes, Fear of Music, The Kooks, The Rakes, Babyshambles, Morning Runner.

There's nothing wrong with music right now. The fault is all with radio.

You may be right. Also dont forget the top band in America today is the Teeth. www.theteeth.net. The Teeth will take over the world! Just like Nirvana in 1991 the Teeth are going to break out big! By 2008 you will see thousands of 16 year old girls with Teeth shirts. Im telling you the Teeth are the next big thing! Ya gotta believe me! www.theteeth.net.

Yep, it appears that way. The only bands in your list I'm *not* playing are Clor and Babyshambles (just haven't gotten my hands on them yet), Fear Of Music, The Kooks, and Morning Runner. And I'm gonna fix that right now.

But let me add to your list: Art Brut (ART BRUT!!!), The Tears, The Futureheads, Dogs Die In Hot Cars, Turin Brakes...

Aw, the heck with it - it's easier to link to this page includes every band I played in a recent week:

http://www.altrok.com/streams.shtml

It's 1/3 old and 2/3 new (within 12 months.) The old stretches back to my days in commercial Alternative radio from 1985-1992 (and college radio 1981-85.)

(And lemme give a big plug to the folks at 90.5 The Night, who let me air two hours of the stuff at 10PM Eastern on Fridays - they stream at http://90.5thenight.org/ ... Strangely enough, the local "alternative" station, G-Rock Radio, who had dropped all mention of "alternative" from their liners, is suddenly calling themselves "The Only Alternative" - coincidence?)

Did you throw Mandy Moore on that list just to see if anyone actually reads the whole thing? :) I'm definitely loving what I'm hearing so far.

Yes and no. She did a cover of XTC's "Senses Working Overtime" that I actually do play, if only to get listeners to go "who the hell does a pop cover of an XTC song?!?"

And thanks for loving it!
