Alternative rock billing

We talk a lot about radio 104.5 don’t bill worth a damn as a station but I wonder how a station like 107.7 the end bills like in seattle. Or if there are any alternative stations that do bill well.

107.7 in Seattle is in the top 10 billing stations, and is pretty much in a three or four station tie for 8th in billing. And it is relatively close to the billing of the next four or 5 stations, so we can say it does very well.

There are nicely billing alternative stations in a number of markets, but the format is not generally going to be at the very top. But where the market can hold one, alternative can be a good second tier format and quite profitable.

Thanks David just one more question how does WKTU and 104.3 bill in New York City

WKTU and WAXQ are both reported to have billed about $26 million in 2018. That ties them for 8th overall, and just a tiny bit behind WBLS at 7th.

Sorry, I know this is the Philly board but just to verify from common sense, I don't have any real source here...

1. wltw
2. whtz
3. wfan
4. wins
5 wcbs
6 wcbs-fm
7 wbls
8 wktu
9 waxq
10 wqht
11 wskq

That would look to be right for 2018.

Thanks, Lite fm and WBLS to me are perfectly programmed stations, they get it right.

CBS-Fm is so very close. They could exploit the market history with more pop and rhythmic music to compliment all the major rock artists hits they play and then truly give WLTW a run on #1 overall and 25-54. Still, when I listen to the mess that is most other so called classic hits stations in the states, CBS-fm is far superior.

Same thing goes for Z100, they are coasting now that they don't have a direct competitor. Still, take a listen to a WIOQ and you appreciate Z100 real quick. What is a real shame is the way they used WKTU to chase those few WPLJ shares. They have wrecked what was known as "The beat of NY". You got to be what people expect from you, and while lately they have seem to be righting the ship back to the way it should be, they are not close to their true potential as a real mass appeal rhythmic hot ac customized for NYC as they once were.

As for sports, WIP and WFAN both know their cities and are on top of their game, that's some good radio for 2019!
