AM 1160...Silent?

This morning, I tuned to AM-1160 WCFO (The CFO) to hear Bloomberg Radio's "The First Word" only to hear nothing but dead air! Just a distant church-owned radio station (Somewhere in Tennessee) with a pastor delivering his daily fire and birmstone sermon (Faded out after sunrise). Something I would rather hear on Sundays, not every day of the week. So I say, okay, there goes another station there in Atlanta. Then I thought, could this be a sign (Hopefully) that they're about to air Bloomberg Radio all-day instead of those inane money-talk programs? If there's anybody who knows or works at AM 1160 (The CFO), inform me. As well as others

I'm sure it's a transmitter issue plus the site does not have a back up generator when the power fails which is frequent in that area. However 1160 being off the air is no great loss.

I've noticed also. Another station is "bleeding" through their signal during the 8'clock hour. Hope they correct the issue soon. Thanks.

There is nothing 1160 here can do. It's a skywave issue in the morning and afternoon hours. You have 1160 out of Chicago and 1160 near Nasheville beating on it.

I agree with Roddy. Al would be perfect for afternoons. As for buying, let's wait long enough and Joe will probability be willing to give it away. He will never get his retrun investment on 1160. The value of AM's are dropping rather quickly.

Chalk up WCFO to benign neglect, the same way Salem Radio pays no attention to broadcast stepchild, WNIV. Eg. tune in WNIV between 10:30 and 10:35 on any weekday evening during the Hugh Hewitt replay from WGKA next door and after the commercial rejoin, chances are you'll hear a Representative Wamp from Tennessee talk with Hugh about his Congressional must-read book list. Doesn't matter what the earlier or latter part of the hour's subject de jour was about, this segment completely interrupts the flow. How long has this matter gone unaddressed? Would you believe months?

Let's forget the fairness doctrine issue rearing its irrelevant head again. But let's start getting really serious about challenging and taking away licenses from numb-nuts who don't do right by listeners or sponsors for that matter and who run very shoddy, mediocre operations. Start by not allowing automation for at least half the broadcast day thus forcing them to be more hands-on and relevant.

As for WCFO and the other one at 1690, you're dealing with the flip-meister. Buy 'em, hold 'em, then flip 'em. There doesn't seem to be any serious commitment to serving the community.

Bottom line. The FCC should make it much easier for community groups to challenge and wrest licenses away from mediocre stewards and most fairness issues will resolve themselves.

I actually listen to 1160 when I am driving through ATL, especially when I get bored with WSB. Is 1160 and 1690 really for sale? What are they asking? The 1690 signal is not really that bad.
