AM 1340 Telephone Busy Signal

Its making it back to the CO.
That excuse sounds like BS to me. I believe all the public service commission rules require it to provide service to a paying customer!

In many areas Verizon is refusing to repair copper or ISDN lines. You can keep using them as long as you want, but if they break you have to upgrade to fiber optic (FiOS).

Don't think its that way here...yet. All the copper stuff here is AT&T.

There may also be a line balance problem, making for some major crosstalk problems. That happened to my home phone years ago, and they moved me to the last available line in the trunk. My line is bad again, so I may have to start using smoke signals.

Here they have nodes that are big boxes (vaults) located near the entrance to subdivisions. As I understand it, these connect to the CO via fiber, and to the customer's home via copper.
All the CO's are connected to the cell sites via fiber. The CO's used to be connected to each other via fat cables (trunks) but are now connected via fiber.
Trunks are 4 wire circuits. Separate talk and receive.
They used to carry video over copper using the A2A system and some TV stations got their network feed this way.

I tried for that bogey dialtone/beacon just this morning, 12-21, between 2:45 and 3:10, with the GE SR 11. No luck.

I *did* hear 'Hey There Lonely Girl', followed by a female voice. I checked the WMID home page for a 'just played' list, but, alas, no luck either. They didn't have it listed. Who else plays oldies music overnight on 1340? Canada?

There was a loud all-sports syndicated show atop for a spell, but no ID there either.

If the dial tone, from what has been reported to be a station in WV, is still doing its thing, perhaps I can nab them during some Holiday insomnia.

As stated previously in this thread, they've file an STA to go silent
