AM 1440 Riverside is now IE 1440 Newstalk

The end of syndication distribution of the 24/7 Comedy network by Clear Channel has led to the end of the unique “Funny 1440”. As of August 4, 2014 KFNY Riverside, CA has shifted to News/Talk “IE 1440“ carrying some, but not all of the same programming found on KEIB 1150.

I'm surprised "Funny 1440" lasted as long as it did (about four years...) I almost never heard any real ads on the station (mostly AdCouncil stuff), although in recent months, one or two of the local auto dealerships advertised on the station.

It's more surprising that the comedy format lasted for eight years (1984-92) on KMDY in Thousand Oaks. I don't recall much advertising on that station either. A comedy format requires people to actually listen and not just have the station on for background noise. Most people are too busy to just sit and listen to comedy on the radio for any length of time.

As of 2:00 this afternoon the station web address conforms to the new format - but it doesn't look like they have settled in on anything.

The weekend schedule is non-existent and there are gaps in the weekday lineup - which seems to be made up of various Premiere (Clear Channel) syndicated programs. They have what looks like a delayed edition of Clyde Lewis competing in part with Coast to Coast on KFI - not good since it is on KOGO out of San Diego two hours earlier. I've heard about but have never heard Andy Dean and Jerry Doyle isn't a household word either.

Anyone want to call "filler?" Beck and Hannity or not I don't think KTIE has anything to worry about here,

That's right, large gaps not identified... Midnight to 6am and 9am to Noon. Plus Andy Dean has said he will discontinue his show shortly to concentrate on his on-line business, so there goes the 3-6pm show.

Why not just simulcast most of KEIB other than Rush, who's already on Salem-owned KTIE? KEIB's 1150 signal isn't that strong in the Inland Empire. And would it really cannibalize KFI if they ran Coast to Coast overnight? I mean, it's clear they only intend to use the signal to carry Clear Channel syndicated programs they already own. Maybe the LA office of Total Traffic will supply some local news, weather and traffic reports? And Fox News on the hour?

KMDY had slightly more advertising support. (I remember one RV commercial with a catchy jingle). It also had a bit more coverage--daytime you could get it from Burbank to Santa Barbara. (Nighttime coverage was much less, mostly to protect KGO-850 in Denver.)

During the day, KFNY-1440 faded out west of Claremont. Nighttime was even worse--often KVON from Napa would stomp all over KFNY even in Ontario...

1440 is currently taking programming from Premiere(Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Andy Dean) and Talk Radio Network (Sam Sorbo, Jerry Doyle, Andrea Tantaros, Roy Masters). Weekend programming is most likely to be replays from Premiere and Monica Crowley from TRN.
