AM 1500 KIEV CP

Does anybody know the status of KIEV Culver City? This station has been dark for a long time. Will this station ever to put back on the air?

Royce (Ed Stoltz) cp expired after about 25 years on the books. Now there are 3 mutually exclusive apps. Saul Levine, Mr. Ed again, and Art Astor. His would upgrade 1510 Ontario to 50kw.

1510 to 50kw? Perhaps another reason why he switched the format to talk. Possibly getting hopeful that he'll get 1500?

or officially keep 1500 silent to allow 1510 to upgrade

50 kw will barely double the coverage of 1510, and the protection requirements are such that this would still be a very limited station... a little chunk of LA, a little piece of the IE and mostly the no-man's zone around Ontario and Fontana which has no ratings.

Other way around maybe. Take 1510 silent and move to 1500.

That stil will not help much. No matter what the power, it is at the very high end of the dial in an area with poor ground conductivity. The old comparison of 1 kw at 550 being equal to 50 kw at 1500 holds true, and may be worse due to the conductivity issue.

I find it hard to imagine that 1510 wouldn't reach at least partway into L.A... I can hear it in the daytime here in El Cajon, near San Diego, although not exactly with a very strong signal.
So what is it that prevents stations from being heard much more than several dozen miles, or so it seems? Are the static levels in L.A. up around 250mV/m, or are people not willing to listen to a station that doesn't have a 90dB signal-to-noise ratio? I'm probably about 100 miles away from KNX, but I can hear them with a fairly clear, almost static-free signal here. Also, I can hear KLAC, KSPN, KABC, KLAA, KRLA, KHJ, KFWB, KTNQ, KDIS (but not KTLK due to strong locals on 1130 and 1170), KFRN (but not much at night), KWKW, KMPC, KBLA (although night is usually dominated by KMIK) here day and night, mostly, yet I've heard you (or someone) say some of their signals don't even reach orange county at night. ??? ??? ???
